My alarm clock beeped the third time that morning and at that moment I knew I was behind schedule.
My second year in high school was almost over and here I was, already done with it.
Spring break had just ended, as my alarm clock loved to remind me of that. I rolled over and felt around for the button that would end the blaring rings. I groaned and sat up shoving my blue comforter into the edge of my bed.
"Glad to see you decided to live today, I thought you died." Jenna my older sister said as she walked into our room.
She was a senior and would not let me forget it."Mom wants you downstairs, your breakfast is getting cold. Oh, we're leaving in 30 minutes, be ready." She winked and walked into the bathroom.
"LEAHLYNN COME DOWN HERE!" My mom yelled.
I sighed knowing she only ever used my full name when she was mad.
What kind of name even is LeahLynn...
A combination that's what it is. My dad wanted Leah, my mom wanted Lynn. And so my name was created. My mom calls me Lynn all the time and my dad calls me Leah. My parents believed in compromise. Which is also why my sister and I share a room even though there are four bedrooms in our house.
We both wanted the biggest room, so we both got it.
"LEAHLYNN I WILL CALL YOU ONE MORE TIME."
I snapped out of my daze and walked down the steps."You've got five minutes too eat. The bus will be here soon."
I nodded taking a spoonful of soggy cold oatmeal and writing finishing touches to a song I was working on.
Jenna walked down stairs and sniggered.
"Will you ever learn to pay attention? One of these days you'll realize music isn't everything and then wish you spent more time on school." She rolled her eyes and scrolled through Instagram.
I closed my song book in shame and stuffed it in my bag.
"Are you ready? I'm driving you too your stop." She said propping her hand on her hip.
"Yeah sure whatever, just let me grab my phone."
I dashed upstairs and unlocked my phone to a spam of texts.
Bree: Spring breaks over, ugh
Lissa: sucks to suck I'm still in Florida.
Bree: where's Lynn, I want to know how her music seminars went
Me: sorry guys I kinda got lost in music.
Bree: like usual... How was the seminars?
Me: oh my god I loved them! They taught so much ugh I wish u guys loved music like I do....
Lissa: the concert was great thanks for asking...
Me: oh sorry liss... Glad to hear that tho!
"Come on Leah were gonna be late!" Jenna said.
Me: gotta go guys
I hopped in her car and plugged my left ear bud in my ear.
Pressing shuffle an old song came on and I quickly skipped. I hated having songs on my phone that I didn't like anymore... It felt like a waste of money.
Jenna turned the volume on her radio up so I couldn't hear my music. I placed my other ear bud in but to no avail. "Could you turn it down?" I said raising an eyebrow.
"My car, my rules, my music." She smirked turning up some rap song she knew I hated.
I rolled my eyes and turned off my music.
