CHAPTER 3
I couldn't sleep. I was scared. Rowan, Kelly and I used to take turns sleeping and taking watch.
This was too different, Rowan wasn't here to wrap his arms around me, and tell me everything would be okay. I remembered Kelly's funeral. Even though people in the town didn't know her, they had a public viewing and praying for her. That was the last time I would ever see my beautiful little sister. She used to be so full of happiness. Seeing her lifeless body in a casket was torture. But they didn't care. All they wanted was to kill off my family. They didn't care if Kelly was only 11 years old. They didn't care if we became orphans when they slaughtered our parents.
I couldn't contain my anger. I screamed. I didn't care if they found me anymore! I didn't care if they killed me! Rowan was gone. Kelly was gone. There was nothing left in the world for me.
~~~~~~~
I heard a scream. It sounded like a girl.
I figured I would check it out. Just in case it really was a girl. And not a figment of my imagination.
I gripped my knife. It wasn't much, but when you where hiding for your life; a hunting knife can become the handiest weapon around.
I stepped on a twig. It snapped in half. "Who's there?" said a female voice. I was guessing she was fairly young maybe 18 years old like me. I kept quiet. My eyes adjusted to the darkness. I saw her. She was too skinny, her dress was covered in mud, she was shaking violently.
"Don't come any closer!' she said, reaching for something. "I'm warning you."
I stepped out of the bushes. "Hi. I am Ky. What's your name?"
The girl shrieked, threw something at me, and ran away.
"God dammit!" My arm ached. Whatever she threw at me, it hurt. "Wait! Come back! I didn't mean to scare you!" Without thinking, I chased after her.
She was light on her feet. Impossible to hear. But luckily I knew my way around the forest.
~~~~~~~
A branch snapped. They found me. I looked closer to where the sound was. I could see a slight shape. It wasn't them.
"Who's there?" I questioned the figure. I waited. There was no reply. I saw the person holding something shinny. A knife? Instinctively I reached for something, anything to use as protection.
I felt a sharp jagged edge of a rock. This would have to do.
"Don't come any closer! I'm warning you."
Then it walked into my view, out of the bushes and fog. It was a person after all, but so were they. It was a boy. He looked a year or two older than me, and was defiantly much taller. "Hi. I am Ky. What's your name?"
I panicked, and screamed. I hurled the rock at him and did what I do when I am scared. I ran. I heard him shout something, but couldn't make out the words.
