Disclaimer!
I call your attention, that if you decide to read this book, please count on the gore, blood, and hard topics in this book, like self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and death. IF you have a weak stomach and still decided to read my book
I warned you. Don't forget my statement.
If you haven't read Why Us yet, no problem.
It's just a semi-introduction of the main (and side) characters' everyday life before it all fell apart. However, if you read it you might understand more about what the character feels and why they feel that way according to past choices, mistakes, and memories.
But I still recommend reading Why Us first (currently unavailable due to rewriting).
This story is about a couple of friends who try to survive a flesh-eating parasite that's spreading across the world. People die day by day just by touching or breathing in the micro-parasites. Bernadette feels like the world is collapsing around her as she loses everything she had.
Previously on Why Us
I pulled my mom to the side and looked sharply at her.
-Get my friends out of here! -I said grinding my teeth. -You want me to see them die? -
My mom laughed. -Don't be ridiculous! -
-I'm not kidding! -I said looking back into the living room. I saw all my old friends sitting on the couch, next to each other, just like in old times, including him. My mom took my hands.
-You should be with the persons you love the most, these days, you don't know if we wake up tomorrow. -She said putting my hands on her chest and teared up. -I know as a family we weren't as supportive of you as these kids Nadette. I wasn't a good mom, I see it now, even if I tried to give you all my love and for god's sake I know you loved them more than us. -
-Mom, don't say things like that... -A tear rolled down my cheeks. -Don't tell me this mom, I love you! -I said hugging her.
-I feel was a bad mother. I feel bad that I only realized it after your sister died. I realized it was too late to make things up for you. -She whispered as she stroked my head slowly. I cried into her chest. No. NO. She was the perfect mom for me! Even with every flaw of this screwed-up family, she was perfect. -The van is in the garage, keys are in. Go with them far away, Ladislav will lead your way. -
-Of course, Lala will, what? - I looked up confused. -What do you mean he will lead my way, why, where are you going? -I stuttered.
-Me and Carlos are going back to the Czech Republic to see if some parts of our family are still alive. We're coming after you guys. -
-Promise? -I lifted my pinkie finger. She took it and kissed my head.
-Promise.
I went back to the living room wiping away my tears.
-Okay losers, I guess we're on a mission again! -I said as they all smiled weakly back at me.
