Nobody wakes up in the morning and decides they need to go to the bookshop right as it opens. That's why it's your favourite time to go book shopping. As the day goes by and more people come in, the noise picks up and you feel self conscious about taking your time at each shelf while you examine the books, knowing you could be in somebody's way. When things are slow in the mornings, the staff don't mind you hanging around and, if they don't have any other tasks to do, some of them chat to you about new books in stock or any recommendations they have. The bookshop was your paradise.
Unfortunately, today the two staff seemed to be balancing one hundred tasks at the same time when you entered and, deciding not to disturb them, you gave them a smile and a small wave before heading to the new releases. It had been a few weeks since your last visit and in the time since people seemed to be raving about a new book released by an award winning contemporary author. You didn't know what exactly the book was about, only that it had amazing reviews so when you located a few, you pulled one off the shelf and began to read the back.
"It's a really good book," a voice said right behind you as you were half way through the blurb. It wasn't the voice of either staff member and when you turned your head, you saw a woman around your own age watching you. You hadn't seen her as you entered the store but she was holding two books under her arms and smiling at you with perfect heart shaped lips.
"You've read it?" You asked turning your whole body to face the woman. The gorgeous woman, you realised as you took in her full appearance. Her skin was clearer than water and not a single piece of hair that flowed well passed her shoulders looked out of place.
Quite simply she took your breath away.
"Just finished it a week or so ago," she said and you noticed a certain sparkle in her eyes. "Definitely the author's best work yet."
"Thanks," you grinned at her. "I think I'll get it!"
"I'm Jisoo, by the way," she introduced herself before turning to face the shelf of books you were staring at right before.
"Y/n," you responded and, nosily, followed her eyes to the part of the shelf she was examining. Your favorite author's new book.
"That one's pretty good too," you grinned and take the book off the shelf for her. "My favorite author."
"Oh really?" She asked and, as she took the book from you, her hand brushed against hers for just a second and it was enough to make your heart stop. "I was quite a big fan of her last book and the ending was incredible. You must have a great taste in books."
"Only the best," you joked and she let out a small giggle of a response. "What did you think of the main character?"
The conversation continued for a few minutes back and forth as you both dissected the plot, the characters and everything in between. You could see the enthusiasm clearly in her eyes as she asked you questions and responded to yours. You were clinging on to her every word, taken aback by the amount of thought she put into analyzing the book, noticing details that never even crossed your mind.
As if you were reading each other's minds, you both started to make your way to the checkout. She reached the checkout first and handed the assistant her books. As the assistant was scanning the books, Jisoo made grabby hands at you.
"Let me pay for your book," she said, holding her hand out expectantly.
"I couldn't do that," you stammered, blushing slightly. "It's incredibly kind of you but really I couldn't."
"I wasn't offering, I was telling you," Jisoo responded trying to tug the book out of your grasp.
"No really, it's okay," you said and she smiled but let go, much to your relief.
Once she paid for her books, it was your turn. You knew the cashier already and engaged in some very brief small talk as you paid for the book. When you finished, you turned to see Jisoo a few steps away, waiting patiently for you.
"Thanks again for the recommendation," you said as you walked over to join her. "I have no plans for today so I might get stuck into this when I get home."
"No plans, huh?" She asked, starting to fidget slightly. "Would - uh - I be overstepping things if I asked if you want to grab coffee now? It's my day off and I know a place nearby we could chat. Get to know each other better? Like, a date?"
She was clearly flustered and speaking so fast you barely caught what she said. She asked you on a date. Wow.
"Sure, I'd love that," you grinned as you both started to leave the bookstore. Out of the corner of your eye, you caught the assistant winking at you. You turned and gave a blushy smile and waved goodbye as Jisoo led the way to the café, stealing looks at each other as you walked.
