Since I was about 14 years old, I went from being a camper at Camp Fairwood to being a councilor. I'm now 19 and going off to college in 3 months, once summers over. 5 years of water balloon fights, scary stories, and amazing campers is about to end. I'm not ready. I'm not ready to go. But I have to. Though of course I'll miss everything about this camp, the thing, actually the person, who I will miss most is my absolute best friend, Tobias Brown.
"Ellie!" one of my previous campers, Melissa ran to me and hugged me as soon as I stepped off the bus. I've been in charge of the 11 to 14-year-olds since I was 17. Melissa had turned 13 since last summer and is now almost 14 and I've known her since she was 11. Sure, all of my friends-besides Tobi- are below the age of 15 but that's fine. Who needs age-appropriate friends anyways? Not me.
"Meli!" I yelled happily "Damn you've grown."
My boss, Mr. Fairwood (Whose father created the camp, if you couldn't tell by the last name) heard me, "Elanor, don't curse at the kids."
"Sorry Fairwood."
Melissa giggled, "I grew a whole 4 inches since last year!"
"I can see that."
Me and Melissa made out way over to cabin 121, the cabin we've been bunking in together since I first became her councilor.
"Well, well, well." I saw Tobi standing there as soon as I opened the door.
"Holy shit Tobi!" I ran to him jumping into a hug as he swung me around and then put me down shortly after. "Tobi, you know I love you, but you're not supposed to be in here." I laughed.
"Just wanted to say hi to my favorite almost college friend."
"You're also an almost college friend."
"Yeah, but you're cooler."
"Not likely, anyways get out I'll talk to you later."
Opal ran into the room from the bathroom, "Ellie!"
"Opal!" I replied smiling.
Opal and Meli looked at each other smiling, "Ellie and Tobi sitting in a tree~"
"Nope nope nope." I responded "B-A-R-F-I-N-G."
"You know you like him." Meli said grinning.
"You know I do."
Opal grabbed Meli's hand like the blooming lesbian she is, not hiding it very well. "This year's the year."
"If I tell Tobi this summer then you're telling you-know-who."
She dropped her hand immediately. "You don't have to tell Tobi."
Meli jumped up with excitement, "You like someone?!" she practically yelled, "Finally someone I can talk about boys with."
I smiled sorrowfully at Opal, her poor, gay, 14-year-old heart.
Meli giggled, "You're telling Tobi and You are telling mystery boy." she said, "anyways I can top bunk,"
"Damn it!" Opal yelled, setting her bag on the bottom bunk.
I sighed, "Language."
"You say that and worse!" Opal complained.
"I'm also 5 years older than you, cry about it."
