Bang! Bang! Bang!

The door was being forcefully pushed again in attempt to open it. I screamed in fear but Mum hastily put her hand across my mouth to muffle the sound. "Be quiet, Bethany," she whispered, "You know that." I did know to be quiet but I could never help being frightened. My life had been completely changed from normal to practically fiction in a few days. In fact, the whole of Shropshire had and God knows how much else of the world.

I inhaled deeply and then saw a glint of sunlight break through the tiny curtain gap. I exhaled. It was morning. The fear was over for the day but would be back tonight.

Dad was sitting on the floor in the corridor red-faced and in a sweaty mess. I sat next to him and gave him a hug; he didn't do anything apart from stroke my hair. I have barely got to see Dad these past few days since he is protecting us at night and sleeping during the day so that he can regain his energy. I do wish life could go back to how it used to be and that we could all be a happy family again.

"Drinks anyone?" asked Granddad, he was in the kitchen with the kettle on.

"A Hot Chocolate please!" cried James in a delighted tone. James is my annoying younger brother; he is eleven years old and a total electronic addict. I have got to love him though since he can definitely make me laugh, especially when we had our walks to school together. Thing is, I don't even know if we will ever go to school again. What if we all die in one of these next couple of days? What if the school has been destroyed? I know that I have always wished time away when at school but at the moment, I wish I could be there back in my ordinary life.

"A cup of tea for me and John, and a hot chocolate for Sasha please," said Mum. John is my Dad and Tracie is my Mum. They usually get along ok apart from when Dad annoys Mum and pretends he loves other women, which isn't true or at least I hope it's not. Anyways, Sasha is my younger sister; she is 2 years old and loves playing child games like dollies or going to the park. She can be rather annoying and selfish but most of the time she is loving and happy.

Well, now you know everything about my family apart from me really. I'm 13 years old and I love computers, writing and acting. When I'm older I totally want to be an author, actress and model. Or as long as the world actually is still around in 10 years. I think you know everything about me and my life now. Oh I know, you want to know about. What the heck was banging on the door earlier? Well, that's where the story begins.

It was the 10th of November 2019 and my family and I were going to Shropshire to visit my Granddad and Uncle for the week. We were all so excited since visiting them was always great fun. Especially, since we also would see our cousins when up there.

It was that night though, when my Uncle was at work and it was only me, Mum, Dad, James, Sasha and Granddad in the house. We heard banging on the door downstairs as if someone or something was attempting to break in. I was put in a state of fear in case it was some kind of murderer, which would be one of my worst nightmares since death is my top. James and Sasha looked scared too so we all snuggled up together when Dad and Granddad went down to check. We knew something was wrong when we heard them shout in surprised terror and then slam their bodies against the door. It was definitely something trying to break in.

They were down there a long time that night, right up until the first slits of sunlight were appearing. Dad came up followed by Granddad with looks of confusion and fear on their faces. "There's something out there. Something terrible. Something killer. Something so strange and fictional that I feel like we are all in some alternate universe that we cannot escape and we are all going to be stuck and have to try and find some sh...," Dad explained really quickly. Granddad put him to pause and continued, "We are all going to have to stay in the house unless we want supplies of which we will have to be cautious about. There are strange creatures out there that went and hid when the sun began to rise. Just be aware!"
