Bus Rides - Karlnap

The time was currently 6:26am, and Karls bus got here in about 20 minutes. He opened his eyes and realized he needed to get ready. He sat up frantically, rubbing his eyes, and turning his alarm off. He looked around his room for a split second, realizing he had slept through his alarm again.

"Shit." He muttered.

He got up out of bed, stretched his back, and walked to his closet to pick out a quick outfit to put on. He pulled out some dark green cargo pants, black graphic t-shirt, and a light brown sweater. It was starting to get cold, so he didn't just want to wear a shirt and regret not bringing a jacket.

After putting his outfit on, he walked to his bathroom, looked in the mirror and messed with his hair for a minute before giving up. He didn't really care if his hair looked messy or not, he just wanted it to look okay.

He picked up his toothbrush and toothpaste, swiftly putting toothpaste on his toothbrush and beginning to brush his teeth.

After brushing his teeth, he then walked back to his room and sat at his desk so he could put some socks and dark brown converse on. He reminded himself that he needed to buy new ones soon, as these were falling apart at the seams. They didn't last that long, but that's the lifespan of converse anyways.

He zipped up his bag, making sure everything was inside. His Chromebook, wallet, Spanish binder, geometry homework he forgot to turn in, and his earbuds. He grabbed his water bottle too, but decided he didn't want to fill it, left it on his desk, and would just buy some waters from a teacher.

He unplugged his phone, quickly scrolling through his notifications that he got while he was sleeping. Most of them weren't important, just people sending streaks, or   his best friend Quackity sending him instagram reels.

He checked his messages and, sure enough, Quackity had texted.

the bus is almost next door

Karl put his phone in his pocket, making sure to grab his bag. He picked it up, and started walking out the door, shutting it. He walked up his long driveway and pulled his phone out again, seeing a message from Quackity, only to put it back up as the bus was pulling in.

Karl waited for the doors to open, and stepped inside, pushing past and stepping over the little kids in the walkway and finding his usual seat, hoping it didn't get stolen. He sat down and unzipped his bag so he could reach for his headphones. He plugged them in to his phone, searching for a playlist that fit his mood.

Once he found a playlist, he hit play and reopened his messages with Quackity, and continued the conversation.

Karl put his phone on his lap and leaned his head on the window, used to the bumpiness of the bus, and the little kids screaming and laughing. He closed his eyes and was fixing to go to sleep, when someone tapped him on the shoulder.

Karl opened his eyes, confused, and looked over. It was a tall boy who had a black wolfcut, with lip and ear piercings. He wore a deftones shirt and baggy jeans with regular black vans. He was wearing a bunch of dark colored bracelets and necklaces, and smiled at Karl, looking expectantly.

Zoning back in, Karl took out an earbud and asked, "sorry, what did you say?"

"Oh! I- uh.. I said you looked cool and i was wondering if I could sit with you? I know you were trying to sleep but there's also no other seats." he laughed awkwardly and looked at Karl again with that same smile.

"Uh- yeah of course. I'm sorry, I had my earbuds in." Karl moved his bag onto the floor of the bus and scooted over so he the boy had room to sit. "What's your name by the way? I'm Karl." he said glancing at the boy who was now next to him.

"I'm Nick! What grade are you in?"

"I'm a junior, you?" Karl said with a small smile, looking at Nick.

"Yeah, me too" Nick replied while giving a small chuckle. "Can i see your schedule?"

"Oh yeah, hold on" he pulls up his schedule on his phone and shows it to Nick. "So did you just move here, or did you just start riding this bus?"

"Yeah I just moved here from Pine Valley. My mom got a new job, so we moved here." Nick said looking over the schedule and comparing his own. "Ohhh that makes sense." Karl said.

"Yeah, I guess. Bro, we have like half of our classes together" He said changing the subject.

"Really? Which classes?" Karl replied curiously, turning the phone towards himself and scooting a little closer to Nick.

They talked the rest of the bus ride, and walked to first period together, as it was one of the classes they shared. Karl and this boy had already gotten along so well, and they'd only known each others names for at least 30 minutes. He didn't really know this boy, but was so very eager to.
