Chapter 4 | Broken Illusions

Time flew by and soon i was in my freshman year of high school. A lot of stuff had happened in the time period between 4th and 9th grade but my memory was hazy. Anyways though here i was having finally completed middle school. I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment.

Our class wasn't big, there weren't a lot of students that made it to high school in the country anyways. It was due to the compulsory military service that one had to do after they finished school, hence most people left after middle school. Somehow, the friend group between me, Akar and Leah still passed the test of time.

Highschool opened up a realm of possibilities for me, for starters i could own a bank account now and could also start to work. I couldn't vote yet but  would gain that possibility soon.

I entered the classroom nonchalantly, opening the door i could see about 13-15 students seated, some were standing alongsides their mates chatting and others were occupying themselves. I walked in and seated myself on a seat by the window.

2 or 3 minutes later Akar and Leah walked in too. I was surprised to see them and questioned the probability of the odds. They only gave me a slight smile and walked over to me.

"How come you're here?" I inquired.
"Shouldn't at least one of you be in a different section?".

"There is only one section, are you okay?" answered Leah.

After hearing that, it became clear to me. Apparently the school didn't have enough students to maintain more than one section.

"Anyways where were you? I haven't seen you in like 3 weeks?" Asked Akar.

Truth be told, i was at my house sleeping all day for three weeks straight after the countless nights i spent studying for the finals. I had ignored studying for the whole year and had to pull all nighters to get a passing grade.

"I was just helping my dad in the factory" i lied.

"Right. like our little silver would agree to do work." teased Leah.

I was offended but couldn't say anything. It was true, if the work was something i did not have a personal interest in then no matter how much i tried i could never avoid rapidly getting bored and quitting.

"Woah there, don't get too angry now, You might just melt." Leah continued.

At that moment i realised, Leah was mad. Probably because i literally just ghosted her after i promised them to go on a trip far away from the town and to the willow river situated in the south of the country.

"Look i'm sorry okay, i had work." I apologized.

"What are you apologizing for?" She wasn't going to forgive me that easily.

Soon after Akar seated himself behind me and Leah sat beside me in the next row. After all was done,  a teacher entered the room and everyone stood up.

The teacher gestured the class to sit down and began to announce.

"Good morning, everyone, I am Mr. Garcia, i will be your homeroom teacher for this session."

for the next 5 minutes i had completely zoned out of the class, my gaze was averted towards the sky where my vision focused on thin air. Yes, i wasn't looking at the clouds, i was staring at the air at some distance from me, even though it seems weird to say.

Suddenly my whole body shook by the influence of a foreign object on my shoulder.

"So what class are you planning to take up?" asked Akar looking at me with an expecting eye.
