Chapter 24: Sweeting's First Attempt

"These burning flames, these crashing waves.
I captivate, you're hypnotize."

Noelle's Perspective

My fingers slipped up several times as I struggled to adjust the last buttons of my suit. I was beginning to sweat from the nerves but blocked it off by keeping a stern demeanor over my bed frame.

I hadn't sneaked out of bounds in months. Or at least, attempted. The fifth year was nothing compared to the rules set up at Hogwarts now, but it's not like I had a choice. It was now or never, and I was not choosing the second.

"Would you return?"

A gasp escaped out of me from the sudden approach, and I felt fine when I realized it was Natty. The other girls were in the lavatories setting up for bedtime.

"Natty, I-" My lips parted, prepared for a lie, but there was no need. It was Natsai Onai. She knew. "...I hope I even make it to my destination first." I joked.

Natty gave a nod. "I shall never underestimate you, Noelle. You always have your ways. I have seen them."

I smiled a little at her compliment and tightened my belt. "Thanks, Natty. I hope so..."

There was a weird quietness between us girls. The only sound one could hear was the handful of potions I packed over my inventory bag, in case of anything.

"I'll make sure to cause a distraction in case the adults or the girls start to ask, Noelle. Don't worry." She read my thoughts.

I sighed, keeping my smile in place, and threw the bag over my shoulder while facing her. "It won't be long, but I appreciate it, Natty. Thank you."

I did appreciate them. They spent all fifth year curving answers from the Prefects and Professors about my whereabouts — especially when I was across the region murdering in flicks. I owed them.

The same bag filled with potions and materials made a repetitive echo noise on the Undercroft minutes later. It was loud enough for Ominis Gaunt to turn at my commotion.

"Sounds like you are well packed," Ominis observed the sounds in a tidy matter, "Your steps sound heavier. Are they boots? Are you dressed in battling?" He asked to reassure.

I stood in the middle of the space between us, looking down at his correct words, and adjusted my gloves. "I don't know what to expect out of the grounds anymore, so, yes, I am prepared."

Ominis nodded.

"And the bag...well, I can't use a broom or take Floo Flames out of law. They'll be detected. I'll have to walk through the endangered zones until a proper exit." I explained.
