Lightkit let out an enormous yawn. Her fur shivered. The warm morning light was filtering into the BrookClan nursery. Beside her, her sister Crowkit shifted and batted her tail on her face. "Hey! Stop that!" she yelped, waking everyone around her. Sunrisekit, her sister and biggest ally in whatever mischief she was up to all the time, pushed her away. "Let me sleep!" she hissed, half-asleep. "Don't go back to sleep, Sunrisekit, dear. Remember today? It's your apprentice ceremony!"their mother, Skysong, said, "aren't you atleast a little bit excited? You'll prove yourselves to the whole clan like this!"she tried to sound cheerful, but anxiety was radiating from her. She wished she had never had kits with that mange-pelt Dovedeath! But can anyone blame her? When they were mates and she announced she were expecting kits, Dovedeath (Doveleap at the time) was a fierce sweetheart to hear. It has only been a few moons ago that he was exiled, a few days before his offspring were born.
Lightkit stretched in the den and padded out in the clearing, followed by Sunrisekit, Rainkit and a little asleep Crowkit. Their mother had begun licking them, picking out moss from their pelts, and smoothing their fur. "Look at you! How do you want to become apprentices like this? Sunrisekit, stop wiggling!" she fussed.
Squirrelstar padded out of the den, the signs of her old age showing in her gray muzzle and weary body, yet there was a spark in her green eyes.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather underneath the Highledge for a clan meeting!" she called. Still a powerful voice.
Cats began flowing out of their dens, warriors, apprentices, even Wisterialeaf poked his head out of the medicine den along with the older medicine cats. "It is time to name lots of apprentices! Sunrisekit, Lightkit, Rainkit and Crowkit, come here! You have all reached the age of six moons, and so are ready to become apprentices. Sunrisekit, step forward!"
Sunrisekit stepped forward, her already fluffy fur fluffed up even more. "Sunrisekit, from this day until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Sunrisepaw. Your mentor will be Foxspark. I hope he will pass down everything he has learned to you." Sunrisepaw came up, now more seriously, and touched noses with her new mentor. Lightkit thought she was going to burst with excitement.
"Lightkit! Step forward! From this day, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Lightpaw. Your mentor will be Finchwater. I hope she passes down all her good qualities to you, to make you a fine warrior that I believe you will be." Lightpaw bounced up to meet her mentor. She touched noses and went to stay beside Sunrisepaw while she watch Rainpaw get Redpool as his mentor and Crowpaw to get Pearlblaze. The whole clan began cheering: Sunrisepaw! Lightpaw! Rainpaw! Crowpaw! Although, Lightpaw saw that not everyone was so eager to shout. Many were passing doubtful looks and she could swear she heard a she-cat say "Don't you think it's dangerous that his kits are going to be apprentices?" Lightpaw's excitement was changed to rage and she wanted to shout at whoever was it that thought so. What did everyone even have against their father? If he was soo terrible, why did her mother never speak about him? She didn't get that.
"Lightpaw! I am speaking to you!" Someone threw Lightpaw out of her thinking. She looked up and saw Finchwater sighing. "I'll have a lot of work to do with you, won't I?" Very funny, Finchwater. "How about you start with cleaning the moss out in the elders' den." She offered. "Then we will explore the territory."
Lightpaw grunted and stomped away, heading for the elders' den. Inside it, there were Ivypool and Roseheart. The elders have both been very honoured by the clans. Ivypool was from the old clans, afterall! "I've come to change your moss" Lightpaw exclaimed. "That'd be great, dear, thank you." Roseheart blinked on the young apprentice. Ivypool said nothing, but Lightpaw knew she was still unhappy. Afterall, she lost her mate, kits, mother, sister...all she had were Squirrelstar and Alderheart. And they had her. Lightpaw shivered. She didn't want to be alone, without any of her siblings to hold her or whisper an encouraging word. Ivypool must be suffering daily. She silently took the moss and came back with dry, new one. Then, left worldlessly.
"There you are!" Finchwater exclaimed. "We'll explore now."
As the two she-cats pad out of camp, Lightpaw takes in the scenery of the forest. The debris scattered around, the leaves, the hiding places, the scent of prey - she couldn't wait to hunt by herself. Her warrior ceremony seemed so far from now. One day, I will be a warrior of BrookClan - and, maybe, I could be a leader? Do I have a leadership spirit? StarClan answer me!
"If you look to your left, that where the pine trees are, and on your right, that's where the moors stretch out. And in front of you, there is a forest with rivers and streams - that's LotusClan's territory. LotusClan swim and catch fish - ugh. PineClan is good at stealth and at sneaking - that's why the scary feeling. It's real yucky, and you wouldn't want to hunt there. FernClan is too open, which is bad for us since we hunt and use the trees to our advantage! And RainClan..is just RainClan. They have basically a bit of our, a bit of PineClan's territory. They hunt in the trees, so they are basically a more climbing version if ourselves. Not that impressive if you ask me." Finchwater finished her explanation and look if Lightpaw was listening. She was. "One day, I will be able to catch any prey. I'll protect our clan from any danger, I'll be known as the best fighter around the lake, I'll bring back the most fresh kill and one day, I'll be your clan leader." I spat out, taking a huge breath because I said all that using only one breath. Finchwater chuckled. "Okay, brave warrior. Let's go and show you the PineClan border." She laughed. What was so funny?
Lightpaw's paws were sore and hurt. She didn't know the territory was this big. They were around the PineClan border now, and she smelled something extremely disgusting. "Ew, what's that?" she wrinkled her nose. "The scent of PineClan. Not a nice experience. Probably the worst of all the smells." Finchwater muttered. Then, the scent got more vibrant and juicy. A PineClan patrol was approaching. Led by Pinerapid, Cricketsong, Firepaw and Rushflail followed. "What are you doing by our border like this?" Cricketsong spat. "Just showing around the territory." Finchwater explained. "Lightpaw is our newest apprentice." "Alright, but one step over the border and we'll claw your ears off!" Pinerapid hissed. Finchwater rolled her eyes and padded away, Lightpaw rushing beside her. "Are they always this grumpy?" she asked. "It's typical PineClan, what did you expect?" Finchwater replied, her tail swooshing. "Let's get back to camp. We'll explore the WindClan border tommorow and I'll teach you some hunting moves."

Lightpaw woke up in the apprentices den. It was really crowded. But soon, she jerked awake. Today I am going on a hunting patrol! She couldn't wait much longer. Trying her luck at the fresh kill pile, all she found was a stale vole and a scrawny mouse, also not fresh. Then, she heard Foxspark call across the clearing with Finchwater. Me and Sunrisepaw are going hunting! She realized that her sister was coming too. She disappeared into the den and soon pulled out a weary Sunrisepaw. She waited for Sunrisepaw to stretch out and then they set off to the morning hunting patrol. "Today, we'll hunt around the unused Thunderpath." Foxspark claimed. "Isn't that dangerous? Aren't Thunderpaths bad and stinky and dangerous? Aren't there monsters?" Lightpaw gasped. "Yes, but the unused Thunderpath doesn't have any monsters, ever. You're safe, don't worry." Finchwater smiled at her. Lightpaw still felt a bit tense.
Everyone else already caught something! Lightpaw gritted her teeth at the sparrow that flew away. Sunrisepaw is going to make fun of me! Then, she froze. She smelled something. A squirrel! She realized. Soon, she spotted the prey. However, her tail brushed against a twig and the squirrel was alerted and began speeding away. Lightpaw was ready, though. She burst out of the bracken and began chasing after the squirrel, blind to her surroundings, feeling the forest floor underneath her paws that soon changed to hard rock of the unused Thunderpath. She was so close, almost sank her teeth into the squirrel, when all of a sudden a bright light came up and all that Lightpaw saw was a huge monster and after that, her vision went dark, and all she felt was a terrible pain coursing through her whole small body.
