But life went on, and so did they. Lately the sophomore students were preoccupied with their winter formal, discussing who was going with whom, what dresses they would wear, and who was most likely to spike the punch bowl. However, it was rare for one of their classmates to be involved in one of these strange happenings and so it was hard to just go on.
After Lydia Martin's so-called "accident" halted said winter formal, most students headed to the local diner, which was already tradition for Beacon Hills High students after school dances. The conversation in the diner centred around one topic: What the hell happened to Lydia Martin? Some called it a failed suicide attempt, while others claimed it was another rabid animal attack. Some were even convinced that it was Derek Hale, the serial killer.
June Jackles was seated in one of the booths, watching attentively as a fairly normal discussion at her table began to turn into a heated argument. The brunette knew fights were inevitable, especially after the night had taken a negative turn, and most of the students hadn't even sobered up yet. Danny Mahealani sat next to her as the two shared a strawberry milkshake.
"Who do you think is going to throw the first punch?" Danny asked June in a low voice, not wanting to encourage any more fighting. Alex and Ben, two boys from the same friend group who always seemed to be in disagreement with one another, had been arguing since they left school grounds. June wishes she could tell you what they were actually fighting about right now, normally she'd be on top stuff like this, but after one too many drinks from the punch bowl those details had entirely slipped her mind. All she remembered was that it began with Ben saying something about Lydia.
"Alex for sure, he's had a crush on Lydia for forever," June nodded in certainty, taking a long sip of the milkshake. She didn't miss the surprised look Danny shot her way but decided to ignore it anyway. Most of the time, June knew what was up with almost her entire grade. She had a talent for getting people to open up to her which combined with the fact that she seemed to be invisible to half the school meant she was able to uncover most secrets from her classmates. Whether they were aware of it or not.
