"I SAID TO NOT WEAR MAKEUP LIKE A NORMAL BOY!!" The scream came from my dad as I heard my little brother fall to the ground with a thud. My heart skipped a beat. He's only thirteen- I ran out and saw him with a gash on his forehead; he wasn't crying but he looked terrified. My dad- no, he'll never be my dad- 'Bryan' looked at me, furious. He started coming at me "YOU! YOU'RE WHY THIS FAMILY IS SO BROKEN!" He screamed at me. "You and your prissy pink clothes! Disgrace to this family!" I lost it, I was done with him.
"I'm a disgrace to this family?! What about you, who's a goddamn drunk! YOU drove mom away! YOU wrecked me for not accepting how I am! And now with Minx for trying to figure out who he is for putting on god damn lipstick. YOU are the reason this family is broken. YOU ARE WHY THIS FAMILY CAN'T BE TOGETHER ANYMORE!" He strode toward me with anger filled in his eyes. He reeled his arm back, and he punched me, but I didn't move, and my nose bled a bit. I pushed him back, he took five steps away. "Minx, go grab the duffle bags." I sputter. The little drops of blood are getting into my mouth. We both had duffle bags packed away in our rooms, ready for us when we were ready to leave.
We fought back and forth, and the weight of everything I wanted to say since I was little was lighted off my shoulders. My heart broke as he said some of the things he did though. As he was hitting and shoving me blood splattered everywhere. "YOU'RE A FAGGOT!!" He cursed at me. He has never called me that, that hit me harder than anything he's called me before.
"Y'know what, I have done everything for you since mom left, I'm in college with a job! Bet you didn't know that! I'm the one paying for Minx let alone myself! I've been the one keeping that fridge full of food, water, and everything else! You are fucking jobless and on the streets half of the time! I'm done with you and trying to pick your ass off the ground." I wipe the blood off my nose. "Adios, bitch."
"Fine, get out of my house you worthless children, I never cared about you anyway." And as he said that, I saw Minx shed a tear. First time in years I've seen him cry, I'll definitely be there for him when we find somewhere to stay, for now we're gonna sing our hearts out in the car as usual. My heart was pacing and I know him and I both needed a stress reliever.
Minx gave me my bag and he carried his. I grabbed my purse from the coat hanger near the door, and we headed outside to my car. I throw my bag in the trunk and so does he. We both hopped in the car, and as I connected my phone to the car for music, I saw Minx taking big deep breaths. "Hey, we're gonna be okay. Just because he hates us doesn't mean that you are not loved, you are very loved and deserve so much more than him."
I started the car and we were off, we didn't know where we were going, we didn't know when we'd stop driving, but I knew that we were safe now, away from him. Away from that monster, we could do anything.
After an hour of driving aimlessly around town and city, I stopped at a gas station. We needed a drink and some food. I parked the car, I grabbed my purse and unbuckled. "Ready?" I asked minx.
"Yeah..!" He replied, I knew he was still hurting. I felt terrible for him, but I'm going to raise him better than Bryan ever could.
"Let's go." I got out and locked the car. We went into the QT and I split up from him and went to the energy drinks. Minx went to the sandwiches. I was browsing the monsters, walking side to side to find the right one. I took one step too far to the right and bumped into someone, the feel of leather brushing against my bare shoulder.
A tall, long black haired, majestic looking boy I have bumped into. He turns his head ever so slightly to look down at me. He seems to look me up and down. A lock of hair falls in his face, and he blows it away. I blush suddenly, my eyes going wide. The raven haired man glances away, but glances back at me quickly. Say something, Oscar! I think frantically.
"I-I- I'm sorry, I should have paid attention..." I murmur, then quickly step away. Oh my god, he's gorgeous! I can tell my face is bright red. I grab my monster from the fridge and walk to the chips. I grabbed a fun size bag of Nacho cheese Doritos. I headed to where Minx was and I saw him with a basket full of stuff. "Girlie, is all that really necessary-" I ask them.
"Yes! I don't know where we're going, so I got some decorations, I got your favorite fake plants..." He continued listing off the stuff he got. A tear ran down my face. He was so thoughtful. Even through all that today he still thinks about me and how I feel along with taking care of himself. "Why are you crying, Oscar?"
"Nothing, you're just so sweet." My heart melted when he talked to me sometimes. I ruffle his hair, making the fluffy blue hair go side to side. He giggles and walks to the line. I followed and hear someone say something, but I figured it wasn't to me.
I followed Minx and got in line. "How are you doing today?"The cashier would ask him. He'd smile, trying to not give away the fact he was in immense pain mentally and physically. He'd look at the stuff he was buying.
"I'm doing great." Minx would say with a slight monotone voice. He knew that he wasn't okay but he wanted to pretend just for a little bit that everything was alright. The cashier scanned the fake plants, food, and everything that Minx picked out.
"The total is 29.67." The cashier droned, pressing the register buttons and it'd make the clicking noise that gives me the ick. Minx would give them thirty dollars. The register opened, again sounds that gave me the ick. The slide and stop of the register made me wanna puke.
Minx grabbed the change and shoved it into his pocket and we headed to the car. I shook off the aftermath of the sound of the cash register, and unlocked the car. I go to unlock the door and hear a man raise his voice to get someone's attention. "Hey!" I turned around, he was talking to me.
"Yes?" I ask embarrassed, realizing it was the hot guy I bumped into in the store.
"You dropped this," He murmurs, and hands me my phone. Jesus, I'm an idiot sometimes.
"Oh, um, thank you. Idiot me." I laugh embarrassed trying to brush it off.
"Of course! Well, I've got to get going, gotta catch the bus." He mutters, gesturing off to a Trimet bus stop in the distance.
"Oh, no need, I'll give you a lift!" I exclaim, unlocking the car and signaling to him to get in. He goes around to the passenger side, his beautiful raven hair blowing in the wind. Minx gets in the back sitting in the middle. This beautiful raven haired boy sits in the seat next to me. My heart beats a little bit faster. I put the car in reverse, and back out of the parking lot.
"So, where are you headed?" I ask, glancing over at the man, then back at the road.
"Rimcline. That fancy-ass university." He grumbles. Oh my gosh, I rave. He's going to the same university I am.
"Oh my god, I'm gonna be going there later this year! Oh, and I never caught your name?"
"Lucifer. You?" I thought for a second, his name was quite adorable.
"I'm Oscar, nice to officially meet you." I smile, holding out my fist. He looks at it, then bumps it with his own. Aghghghghhgh, he touched me!! My face goes red and then suddenly my vision goes back, honking fills my ears, and the last thing I can think of is Minx's blood curdling scream.
