【Hajime's Pov】

I sat in the survivor's room. Everyone was in here, all except Mikan and
Hiyoko. Luckily, Nagito got healthy enough to leave, but Hiyoko was now in
critical condition already. An hour had passed since then and the
foundation told us to meet here because they had an announcement.
Mikan wasn’t allowed in here with us, and right now I think she's in solitary
confinement. I looked up at the door opening.

“Alright everyone, here’s what's happening.” Kyoko walked in here calmly,
yet confidently. Everyone’s head snapped to her as she began speaking.

“As you all should know, since you’ve all woken up we’re sending you back
to Jabberwock, for rehabilitation and to keep you away from the general
population. Although we’ve run into obvious difficulties. That being the
Mikan and Hiyoko incident. Hiyoko will be kept here while we try to rescue
her, and…we’ll find a way to deal with the remnant.” Everyone quivered at
the title remnant.

“We’ve decided that now is the best time to do so. If you all would, please
follow me to the ship.” The lavender haired girl turned and walked out the
room. Now?! What about-

“Your belongings are on the ship already, if you’re worrying about that.”
Kyoko said in the doorway. I took a deep breath before standing up to
follow Kyoko back to the island.

The boat ride was’t the worst. Honestly, the boat was quite high end.

Everyone was busy having a lunch of kushiyaki. I was at the railing, looking
out to the water. I was hungry, but there was too much on my mind. Hiyoko
could very possibly die. Mikan might never recover, Nagito nearly fucking
died too as soon as he woke up. We all might end that way.

“Hajime?” A name called from behind me, making me flinch.

“Ah, sorry! Didn’t mean to scare you.” Nagito waved his hands in front of
his face, apologizing. He was sporting his green coat, one of the sleeves
busted up, a metallic hand poking through it. He pointed one of the
kushiyaki at me.

“Hungry?” He gave me the same smile he did back then. Kind and
carefree. I gratefully took the stick from his hands.

“Something on your mind?” He leaned over the rail beside me, looking out
into the deep blue.

“Yeah, I guess so.” The ocean rocked the boat back in fourth, almost
making me a bit sick.

“...Do you want to talk about it?” Nagito tilted his head to the side
quizzically.

“You think Hiyoko’s gonna make it?” I looked up at him. He starting thinking
before answering.

“Perhaps, symbols of hope like you all could probably take anything!
Though, she did get quite the dose. Arsenic is no laughing matter.” His tone
was serious. Maybe he knew a lot about poison? I mean he
did….nevermind.

I hummed in response. Hopefully. I didn’t want any more deaths.

Me and
Nagito chatted while eating by the railing. From hope, to animals, to our
former classmates. (Though they weren’t exactly my classmates.)

“What do you see yourself doing in the future, Hajime?” Nagito asked me. I
thought about it for a moment.

“I don’t know. I’m not too good at much. So I guess I don’t have many
options.” I sighed, leaning my body to the edge more.

“Preposterous! You’re the Ultimate Hope! I’m sure anyone would be
extremely grateful for you to offer any amount of your time to them,
including me.” He smiled at me. It was sweet, but what he said pissed me
off a bit.

“Technically, I’m not actually talented. I just got them. I never earned them.
I’m not sure how to even use it.” I stared sadly at the blue water. The sky
was starting to get a bit darker now, which kind of made me even more sad.
Nagito looked down, as if not sure as what to say. I remember he told me
about his dementia. One symptom being poor judgment and not being able
to say the right things. That’s probably why he stays silent sometimes,
when he can process thinking before talking.

“Hey, Nagito.” I looked back up to him, he snapped out his thought from his
name being said.

“Yes?”

“Y’know, outside of the hope and talent bullshit, what do you think of me?”
He seemed taken aback by the question, taking a minute to process his
answer.

“Well, I usually perceive things on hope, and I think, even before your
talent, you’ve possessed a strong amount of it. But, outside of that? Well,
I…” He trailed off a bit. His cheeks turned a light pink while he thought of
what to say next.

“I think that…you’re a good person, Hajime. And, that your attr- Nevermind.
Not the time for that.” He stopped himself mid-sentence.

“Oh, thank you.” I gave him a smile. He didn’t really give me much, but I
appreciated what he did give me. Nagito and I walked over to the sleeping
cabins and bid each other goodnight before going to sleep.
