Y/n heard the tumble in the bathroom in the distance. Outside she was carving a small piece of wood, it was her hobby. Ever since her upbringing, she had found digging into wood like this had helped her through the years. Had helped her forget that tattoo on her wrist, or the scars lingering on her body. Because like that wood, she was scarred and torn in places she couldn't reach. But now she could cut and prod at its exterior until it looked like she wanted. Before she had usually carved things like animals, before moving on to gargoyles. But ever since meeting Eddie, he had inspired her to carve heroes from distant lands, with wands and swords.

She didn't quite understand DnD, but she enjoyed listening to him talk about it. She was much too embarrassed of her own skills to try it out for herself. She didn't want Eddie to see just how different they were. Since the house was full of plenty of help, she decided to keep out of it and continue her craft. Y/n didn't like bugging in on their business, nor did she like them doing the same. Though they seemed to do it all the time. That's why she sat out here, instead of making deeper connections inside. She wasn't used to this interaction, she spent her last few years hunting down Demogorgons and strange amalgamations.

But felt uncomfortable in a setting like a dining table. She was going to ignore the sound, until Hopper stepped out, wiping his face. He seemed stressed. Y/n gulped and continued cutting the wood. She had hoped he wouldn't say anything, but he did. "So.. What are you making there?" He saw the rather sharp blade in her hands. "Woah- woah- be careful with that-" He then remembers she isn't like Eleven whom he had adopted at such a young age. That she had been on her own for years, not to mention her ability. Not telekinesis, or some strange brain power. But much like a voodoo doll, she could transfer harm from herself to others, and vice versa. However, when testing the power in the facility, it didn't always work.

That led to the scars littering her body, ones she preferred to hide. Hopper still wasn't used to the mask she wore. The porcelain doll's face was strapped around her head. Papa had given her a doll long long ago. She had thought it was just the prettiest thing she had ever seen. She couldn't help but want to switch places. And when she escaped, when she ran, she finally could be. It was only convenient it covered her little scars on her forehead from the electric shock she had endured there. "I got it," Y/n told him, before focusing back on the wood. Hopper takes a seat next to her, lighting a smoke. "Those are bad for you." She told him, tasting the smoke in the air. "Yeah well, sometimes I need it." They remained silent until he watched her work. The figure was well done, it was clear a lot of work was put into it.

"How long have you been- carving?" She shrugs, "A while." Never a straight-up answer with her, he thought. "Is it a wizard?" "A mage." "Sure." He was trying to connect with the girl like he had with El, but her walls were up high. And if he couldn't handle what was going on inside with her, maybe he could do something here. Just as he opened his mouth again, a few familiar teens walked out of the house. Y/n sighs, almost dipping her head. All she wanted was to carve her little mage, she slid the blade back into her pocket and hid the figure behind the bench they sat on. Hopper raised a brow at the action, why was she hiding it? "Let's uh- give them a few minutes," Steve suggested, crossing his arms. He watched Nancy rush around in the house.

Even Y/n was curious about what was going on, but she shook it off again. Will leans back onto the house, waiting for the chaos to be over with Mike. That's when Eddie walked out of the house, being actively pushed out by Nancy once again. "Hey- My shit's in there!" "Get it later!" She slams the door. His eyes immediately set on Y/n, the only girl who wasn't inside. Though she was the only one who had no idea why. Eddie slides down next to her, leaning his head back onto the bench's back. She rested her chin in her hands, frustrated she lost her alone time. Eddie tapped his foot, trying to think of something to say to his crush.
