Chapter twenty two

As I close the car door, the once vague rain becomes more prominent. I reach inside hiding my face with my hands so my mascara doesn't run. I grab my bag and run. I quickly swing open the door to a dark house. I look over to see cora petting forte on the couch. "Hey, honey. What's up?" I ask as I start toward the couch. "I guess I'm just nervous. I don't want this baby growing up without a dad and I swear there was protection used but that's obviously false and I feel like I've failed and-" "Cora. No matter how this child will turn out- with or without a dad- you will be the best mother in the world to this baby." I sympathize grabbing her hand reassuringly. "It doesn't matter about the mistakes you made because you already made them. That's in the past now. What you need to worry about is the future now." she looks down at the floor, her feet making nervous movements. "I just don't understand how I could be so foolish." she starts to say. "your not. You've done this before so you thought you were safe and it's ok that you forgot to check. We learn from mistakes but this baby isn't one of them. The guy was." I kiss the top of her forehead as I see tears well in her eyes. "This shouldn't be sad. It should be exciting. Cora, you're having your first baby!" I squeal. she laughs slightly and looks at me. "Thank you." I lean in and wrap my arms around her, embracing her comfortingly. She breaks the hug as she backs away. "Sorry to ruin the mood but I've got work. You could come and watch if you'd like?" she nods. "It's always a pick me up to watch you perform." I smile. "Ok well I've got to be there in thirty so let's head out."
