Prologue
300 years ago there was creatures named Alpha. An Alpha was a creature that was half human and half tiger. They could change appearances from Tiger, to half tiger to human. Their eyes were emerald green. In their half tiger, half human form they had the body of a human, but paws. Their body was covered in thick white fur, with black stripes. Their face looked like a tigers, except for the eyes. The tale was long and reached the grown. They were looked at as beautiful, but the legend said the beauty was a fraud and they the witches and wizards eradicated all of them, or that was what they thought. A few survived and was forced to live in the shadows. Changing form to human was painful and it was rare for an Alpha to talk. When they fell asleep they changed back to their appearance and that was what who revealed them. They were chased at night.
Chapter one
Her name was Miriam. She was seventeen years old, hiding in the forbidden. She was in her half human form and crumbled together under a tree. She had been running for days, the hiding place she had stayed in with her parents was destroyed, and her parents killed. Her mother had sacrificed herself for her and she had watched her father die. The memory still played in front of her eyes.
Miriam was lying on the floor in their cozy cave. Her mother washed her fur, licking it motherly. She purred as she did, feeling the warmth of her body. Her father chuckled as he watched Miriam fall asleep. Suddenly there was a bang and the cave entrance exploded. In came three men dressed in black, together with a woman in pink. “Well, well, well, you thought you could hide, did you?” The fight began and her family fought the best they could, not for their life, but for her. Miriam wanted to help, but her father ordered her to stay away, fearing for his only daughter’s life.
They fought well, but their claws were nothing compared to the wizards magic and she watched her father fall to the grown. ‘Miriam run, I love you!’ Her mother thought and ran straight into the wizards, keeping them away from her daughter. Miriam sprinted out and the last thing she saw of her mother was her lifeless body fall to the grown. Tears prickled in her eyes as she ran and ran. Away from the humans. She was shaking, she was broken, but she didn’t stop. Spells missed her by inches, but she continued and soon she was out of sight.
Miriam couldn’t change to a human, not even for a few hours. It hurt too much. Lying there on the ground, trying to keep the warmth inside she slowly fell into sleep. At the middle of the night she was awakened, by the men. A net was thrown over her, capturing her. She fought and fought, but there was to no use. The men laughed of her and waited for her to outworn herself. She sneered fought the ropes, but soon her energy ran out of her. The men who had found themselves a seat got up when they saw a woman approach. “Good work, bring it to the castle.” The toad looking woman said. Making Miriam sneer. The woman smiled evilly at her.
Miriam was lifted to the air, being carried by the men. Something held her paws in place, making it impossible to use her claws. “Let me go!” She shrieked, speaking for the first time. Her voice broken, making them laugh of her. She was thrown into a cell in the tower. She ran forward trying to escape, but only a second before freedom the iron sprinkle door shut her in. She fought and fought as she watched them leave. She kicked, sneered and roared dangerously. After she heard a brake in one of her ribs she knew there was no chance she could get out. She would only hurt herself if she continued. Giving up she curled together in one corner, leaning her head at her paws.
Umbridge entered the headmaster’s office. “Ah, Dolores, what do I owe this pleasure?” Dumbledore spoke up while taking a licorice snack. “There is a prisoner in the tower, we will collect it tomorrow. This is the ministry’s case and I am warning you. You have responsibility to make sure it doesn’t escape.
“it?” Asked Dumbledore suspiciously. But Umbridge only smirked and walked out of his office. Leaving the school grounds together with the three other members of the ministry.
“ Severus, meet me in the tower.”
Dumbledore handed it to his owl. Even if it was three at night, he figured Snape would come anyway. Professor McGonagall who had been pushed aside on her patrol down the halls by the men and that awful woman was on her way towards Dumbledore’s office. “Headmaster, what on earth is going on?” She asked worriedly. “I think it is best you see for yourself.” He answered.
Inside the cell laid Miriam, she couldn’t sleep, She had her feet up to her chest where she was leaning her face at her knees. She was licking the blood off her paws, which she had gotten from a small wound, already cleaned.
Three people approached and she jumped by the sound of them coming closer. She pressed herself further into the wall and sneered. Trying to keep their distance. “What was it-“ A cold voice broke itself of by the sight of her. “Oh my God.” He mumbled, completely out of character. The two other humans stood a few meters away, while a man with greasy black hair, pale face, a hooked nose and dressed in a black cloak, came closer. He bowed respectfully in front of her. Making Miriam stop sneering. Slowly he bent down on his knees. He reached a hand through the bars and waited for her respond. McGinagall looked shocked, while Dumbledore watched in silence. Not taking her eyes from the man Miriam came closer. She was only inches apart from Snape’s hand. McGonagall looked worried. Knowing that the Alpha could easily snap off Snape’s hand.
Snape felt a wash of relieve and self accomplishment, together with a lot of excitement, when The Alpha licked his fingers. “They like the salt.” He explained. Knowing they didn’t know. A purring sound came from Miriam’s throat and she closed her eyes. Licking Snape’s hand free from salt. “What have they done to you?” Snape asked, seeing the pain in her eyes. His character was completely changed. He sounded caring, nice for the first time in ages. “She has accepted you.” Dumbledore said as realization hit him. A wave with his wand and the cell door opened. Snape carefully picked up the chain that was around The Alpha’s neck and got to his feet. Careful on how he moved.
Dumbledore and McGonagall had left without Snape knowing it. “Come here.” He said and laid the way. The second the door to his headquarters shut he bent down to the scared Alpha’s level. She was now in her tiger form, feeling most protected. She was looking down, expecting the man to hit her. He brought out a hand, waiting for her acceptance. Showing respect. He then carefully slid the chain off her, seeing the pain it caused her. He then opened a door and held it open for her. “This will be your room, I promise I will do something with it tomorrow.” It was a circular room, with a bed and a soft blanket. Looking up at him in surprise. He nodded and she walked pass him and entered the unfamiliar room. Miriam lied down at the blanket and closed her eyes, sleep finally taking over her. Snape had never seen such a creature in his life. But he had heard about them, only that he thought he would never see one himself.
