It was my 6th birthday. My father turned the television on. He was scanning through the channels when he came upon the news. The news man had said to stay inside our houses due to an emergency. My father had a look of suspicion on his face."Hurry up and go pack your things Tayen. Don't forget what I have told you." "Yes father I understand." You probably are wondering what he meant by what he had said just now. To clarify what he had told me, he means to pack all of our survival gear and etcetera. He had told me if something was suspicious to him to follow his lead so I had done that.
My mother had died when I was born, that was way before this started thankfully. Father was very devastated but he kept a promise to mother. When the apocalypse started, father took me to our cabin in the mountains.
As I grew up in the apocalypse, father had taught me survival tips, hunting, fishing, to always be cautious and keep my guard up, cooking, fighting, to travel safely, he had also taught me swordsmanship, crossbow/bow and arrows as well as guns in case. He had taught me how to throw knives, axes, swords etcetera.
Seven years had passed, I am on my own. My father died exactly seven years ago today. At least he wasn't bitten. When he passed I had burned him into ashes and put him into an urn to bury with my mother. Before I had put the box in with her casket, I put some of his ashes into a necklace.
