"Well, what did they say?"
"No clue."
"What? Why?"
"Language barrier."
"But you are also human. Don't you all speak the same language?"
"Just because we're both human doesn't mean we can understand each other. Earth has over 7,100 languages. I don't know every single one. I speak English, Spanish, and some German. They speak Polish.
"Humans have HOW MANY languages?"
He could hear the frustration in her voice. "How many languages are there?!"
"I don't know either."
He heard her sigh. "We need to visit another planet."
"Why? To help them learn new ones? There's nothing new about a planet that's been there for years." He knew this was not going to end well.
"It needs to be done."
"We can do things here that humans couldn't do anywhere else. Why would it matter if we teach another species our ways?"
"You were the one who suggested that maybe we should try learning their way! Now we can't leave until we've learned their language!"
"If it makes you feel any better, we can still go back. We could go to another planet or another world."
She let out an angry huff on the other end of the phone. "Fine. But we'll see each other soon, right?" She sounded tired. The line went silent after that, signaling the end of their call.
The next morning Keith awoke early enough so he could take his dogs outside. As he sat on the stairs he watched as people passed through his neighborhood waving at him and every now and then he would wave back. The last time had been a couple weeks ago and since then Keith had started seeing more and more people around town. It made him excited and curious when people he hadn't seen before stopped by and told him how much they liked the food he prepared, or asked him how long he planned to live there. This is something he never had the answer to, and would always say something like 'awhile' or 'I'm glad you enjoyed the food.'
Keith was inside preparing for the day when he heard a vehicle pull into his driveway. Walking out of the house, with a half done tie, he saw a white SUV in his driveway with his best friend, Maddox, waving at him through the window.
"Hey, pretty boy, no time to do all your beauty makeup cmon!" He would shout, as Keith climbed into the passenger side rolling his eyes.
A/N: How do you think this should continue? Where will they go? What does Keith find out?
