Ray Marvin quickly got on the school bus at the end of the school day as he felt excited for going home since he knew that a package was arriving even though he hoped his father wasn't home. He went and sat in a seat before he looked out the window with a big smile on his face.
"Please don't be there. Please don't be there." Ray whispered to himself as he watched the rest of the students got on the bus and into their seats. He was getting impatient even though he knew that he had to be patient for everyone else. He then looked out the window again and watched all of the other busses get loaded up with kids before a girl came and sat next to him.
"I can't wait to get home. Come on, guys." Ray said to himself as the girl looked over at him as he continued ignoring her. He didn't care that he had a girl next to him even though his imaginary friends would have him feeling different.
"Um, excuse me." The girl said trying to get Ray's attention before watching him sigh and look at her with anger in his eyes. The girl then smiled and then got closer as the last few students got on and went to their seats.
"Please be quiet, I am trying to make time go faster and it won't of you try to get me to talk with you." Ray said leaving the girl shocked with what he said before she looked around. The girl then slapped Ray teary eyed and then she got up and left the seat before the driver got in and then sat in the driver's seat.
"Alright, ya yahoos. Sit down and shut up. We are going." The driver said before he turned the radio on and then followed the other busses out of the parking lot. Ray smiled as he watched the bus stop at other kid's houses dropping them off as he hoped that his father wouldn't mess with a package he was hoping to get.
"Nice showing your the schools biggest loser." One of the jocks said as he walked off the bus with the girl from earlier crying her eyes out with a small smirk on his face. Ray then shrugged as he didn't care what was was going on as he pulled his phone out and started to feel anxious that his package wasn't there.
"It should be there by now. I made sure of it. What's going on?" Ray said before the bus stopped at his house and then he got up and grabbed his bag and then quickly left. He then went to the front door and walked in and looked around as he didn't know that his father came home early. He then started to walk up the stairs before he stopped after a loud cough came from the living room.
"Oh, I'm back father." Ray said as he got down and walked to the living room as his father held up an empty beer bottle as he burped. Ray groaned quietly and then went to the kitchen and got his father a beer as he father watched him smiling a little.
"How was your day? I am making dinner soon." His father said as Ray walked to him with a new beer bottle in his hand as he knew that the night would not end in his favor. Ray then took a deep breath not knowing if his father knew and he hoped that he was not in trouble.
"It was alright. We had some homework but we had some extra time so I thought I just do the work there." Ray said as he sat on the couch before his father turned to him with a smirk on his face. He knew that he had waited for him to ask if he had to go anywhere but he knew that he wouldn't ask.
"That's great. I need you to go to your friends house for the weekend." His father said before Ray looked at him shocked. He didn't know why he was forced to leave but he knew that he had to have a night off but then he remembered that his father was seeing a new woman only a few weeks after his mother's death.
"You two have fun." Ray said before he got up and quickly went to his room and then started to pack his back and then seen a package on his bed. He then smiled and grabbed the package and put it in his bag before he heard a knock on the front door.
"Ray! Your friend is here to pick you up." His father yelled before Ray then put his bag on and then went down the stairs only to be stopped by his father. His father then placed his hand on Ray's face and then kissed him on the lips knowing that he couldn't have his son not until a while longer.
"You have fun too. But not with another guy. I want to be your first gay man." He said before he stepped to the side and walked to the kitchen. Ray then walked out of the house grabbing his keys before turning and closing and locking the door before he looked up.
"Even though your a bisexual piece of shit. I hope your girlfriend leaves you." Ray whispered before he turned and went into his friend's car and sighed as he placed his bag in her back seat. His best friend watched him as she felt confused while he sat back and groaned while putting his hands on the back of his head.
"You ok, Ray?" She asked as she got ready to drive away as Ray nodded and then watched as she pulled away. Ray then sighed once they were away from his father's house and Ray smiled as he seen her house getting closer.
"You wanna talk about it?" She asked as she stopped at a red light before Ray put his hands on her face gently making her look over at him and then immediately kissed her. They both blushed bright red as they sat in the car while staying quiet as they didn't know how to respond to what had just happened.
"My fucking father don't get that I don't like guys in that way. He thinks because he's bi and my father that I am attracted to him. But no I like women. I don't know what to do anymore, Lydia. " Ray said before Lydia looked at him feeling hopeful. She liked him as more then a friend even though she was in a relationship with a girl from their school.
"Just ignore, him. Hey, why don't we go out to dinner? I can find us a place to go." Lydia said smiling hoping that she could plan a date for the both of them. Ray then shook his head as Lydia watched and then looked up as she got out of the car and then slammed the d
"Wonder what she is so upset about." Ray said before he turned forward and then he yawned as he started getting tired even though there was cars behind him honking. Lydia then sighed and then got back in and got ready to drive and then drove away from the city before Ray looked around as he felt confused.
"Uh, Lydia. This is not your house." Ray said as she drove to the middle of nowhere and then she pulled over and placed her arm on her door as she parked the car. Ray looked over at her while feeling more confused on what was going on since he didn't know how bad he had hurt her.
"I know. Get out." Lydia said before Ray looked up at her shocked as he didn't know what was going on with her. Lydia then looked over at her as he tried to figure out what she was going to say or do next.
"Are you serious? Come on, Lydia. Stop joking. Let's head to your house." Ray said before he watched Lydia shake her head as he noticed that she was keeping some tears in. She knew that she had to tell him what she was contemplating to tell her even though she knew he would would be serious danger.
"Yes, I am serious. Get out. Get the fuck out of my car. And take all that you brought with you." Lydia said and then sat in her seat as Ray got out and grabbed his stuff out of the back seat and then watched her walk away. Ray sighed as he watched her drive away quickly as possible. He watched on shocked as he was still reeling from how she was acting before he put his bag on his back.
"Whatever, fucking bitch." Ray said to himself before he turned and then started to walk away. He looked up at the sky to find out what the times even though he didn't have a care.
"Don't worry, honey. I will make my way back to my dads house. And if I come with a woman that's actually interested in me and not what I can get. You'll be both jealous and sorry that you threw me away." Ray said to himself as he walked along side the road. He then looked around as he held out his arm and then he stuck out his thumb while he waited to see if there was a car coming.
"Come on, people. I have to get home. I have a project I want to get going on. I do own an extra set of tools but I don't want to do it out here." Ray said to himself while he felt upset that no one was out there to try to help him. Ray then groaned and put his arm down and then walked to the nearby town and looked around as he watched people walk by him ignoring him.
"Thanks to see that people actually care." Ray said to himself as he held onto his bag and then shook his head as he kept on walking. Ray looked up and then watched as the sun went down as he sighed and then went a little away from the road and then pulled the box out. He then sighed loudly as he took out his tool box and then took the pieces of the robot dog out of the box before a smile appeared on his face.
"There you are. Since I have no ride, for now. I think it's time for me to get started to work on you." Ray said to himself as he grabbed the instructions and then started to read all of the steps. He then placed his head on his hand as he started to get a little bored without any music but he knew that he had to do this himself.
"Alright, I think I got this. Let's do it." Ray said to himself before he grabbed the pieces and then started to put the robot dog together. He smiled when he got all the legs put together and then grabbed the pieces for the torso.
"I don't know why people need instructions. This is actually pretty easy. I will get you done and then we will continue on our journey." Ray said to himself as he managed to get a part of the torso done before he stopped and rubbed his eyes. He then quickly and immediately shook his head before he looked around as he breathed heavily.
"Don't be tired. Not yet. You still have to finish this." Ray said to himself before he turned back to the instructions and then went back to working. He then laid down after attaching the front legs to the torso as he knew that he was getting too tired to continue working.
"Once I am done with my nap, I will finish you. I will make sure of that." Ray said as he held the robot parts closer to him as he fell asleep with a deep breath. He kept sleeping for a while since he wasn't used to sleeping without a bed.
"This fucking sucks. Why did she have to kick me out of her car?" Ray asked as he woke up the next morning before he sat up and stretched and then shook his head. Ray then sighed and grabbed the instructions before he looked around and then started to panic.
"Oh my God! My stuff is missing!" Ray yelled before he sighed seeing the pile of robot parts and then grabbed them and rubbed his face. He knew that he couldn't waste time by being angry with himself and then he took a deep breath and started to get back to work.
"Alright. And done." Ray said as he smiled looking at the completed robot standing in front of him before he grabbed the paper again. He read through the manual part so that he could know how to work is new pet robot even though the robot was coming to life right in front of him.
"Select what type of voice? What on earth does that mean?" Ray asked as the robot walked up to him and then sat down as it's automatic tail wiggled. Ray then groaned as he heard the noise while he tried to ignore it before he went back to reading.
"Hello, master. How can I help you today?" The robot asked making Ray jump involuntarily throwing the manual away. The robot then watched the manual and went after it as if it was a ball and wanted to play fetch.
"Oh my god." Ray said to himself as he watched the robot grab the man and run back to him with the manual in its mouth. He then smiled and chuckled as he quickly opened his arms and grunted a little when the robot jumped in making dog like panting sounds.
"You are really alive! This is the best day ever! I have to give you a name don't I?" Ray asked as he looked down at the robot and watched as it jumped from his arms and then landed in front of him. The robot then looked around and then turned to Ray and sat down before it tilted his head making Ray shake his head a little.
"I couldn't quite get that. What did you say?" The robot asked before Ray then lost his smile thinking that he messed up before he grabbed the manual again. He looked at the robot and seen that the ears were more shinier then the rest of the body and seen a little red piece of paper.
"Oh your probably deaf with these on. Here let me help you." Ray said as he grabbed the pieces of papers and slowly lifted them off taking off the plastic covering the robots ears. After Ray took the pieces of plastic off, the robot took a few steps back and then shook like a dog before looking up at him and scanning Ray's face.
Ray watched the robot scanning him as he felt confused since he threw the manual away out of fear of him hearing the robot speak. The robot then reseted itself and then sat down in front of Ray and looked up at him as he breathed heavily.
"Hello, Ray. Are you ready to register me?" The robot asked as Ray smiled a little looking down at the robot. He then nodded and watched as the robots eyes started to glow bright making Ray cover his eyes as he watched the robot. A few minutes later, the robot spun its head as a piece of paper printed out of its back.
"Registration almost complete. Just write my new name on this piece of paper and let me see it and then I will be done." The robot said before Ray looked and then grabbed the paper and reached into his bag and then grabbed a pen. Ray then leaned back as he tried to figure out what he wanted to name his new pet.
"Oh, I know what to call you." Ray said and then wrote down a name with a smile on his face as he felt happy to be able to have his pet with him, even though he wasn't in a good situation. He then gasped loudly as the paper disintegrated in his hands before he looked up at the robot.
"Got it. My name is Devon." Devon said before it looked up at Ray and then watched as he got up and wiped the dirt off of him. Ray then grabbed his bag and then looked around as he didn't know what he was going to do.
"The nearest town is a hundred miles away from us. I suggest we keep going." Devon said before Ray looked down and then began to walk with Devon. Ray sighed as he looked down at the ground before he heard a honk and then turned and seen his father's car pulling up.
"Dad?" Ray asked himself as he grabbed his stuff as Devon jumped into Ray's backpack before Ray headed to the car hoping that it was real. His father then went to him and held him tight and then kissed his head while breathing heavily.
"Are you alright? I tried to get a hold of you last night and I wanted you to come home but Lydia's mother told me you weren't there. I had to yell at Lydia for her to tell me what happened to you. Oh she isn't your friend anymore." His father said before they went to the car. Ray then nodded as he had felt weird that they had agreed on something ever since his mother died and their relationship grew cold.
"Yeah, I am alright. And agreed. I can't believe that she had done that." Ray said as they both got in before his father looked over at him confused. He didn't actually know that Lydia had dropped him there but he had hoped that he would forget about what happened.
"Oh uh, yeah. Anyway, are you hungry?" Ray's father asked as he drove back to the town before Ray nodded quickly with a smile on his face. He couldn't believe that he had forgotten that he had no food on him and that he was starting to get really hungry.
"Yes, please." Ray had said before they stopped at a red light and then looked outside of the window. He then started to reach over to grab his father's arm before a truck had instantly smashed into them. A few days later, Ray had woken up with a tube in his throat and bandages over his face.
"Woah, there. Good morning, sleeping beauty. I will be right back." The nurse said as Ray looked around barely able to move his head. Ray then watched as the nurse left the room as she went to go and get the doctor. He opened his mouth and tried to speak but knew that no words could come out of his mouth and then watched as Devon sneaked into the room and then quickly jumped on Ray's hospital bed.
"Master, are you ok?" Devon asked before the doctor walked in holding a clipboard before Devon quickly hid under the bed. Ray looked up at the doctor as he stood at the end of the bed before the doctor then looked up with a serious look on his face.
"Good morning, sir. We didn't think that you would wake up. You have been in an accident and we you got into surgery. But we could not have been able to repair your vocal cords. I am so sorry to tell you that." The doctor said before he put the clip board down on a nearby table. Ray could notice that the doctor was a little disappointed to see that Ray was still alive.
"You won't be able to get back to your normal self." The doctor said as he looked Ray in the eyes as Ray realized that the doctor was being truthful. He then barely moved his hands to ask the doctor about his father in sign language as the doctor looked at him confused.
"I don't understand what you are saying. I will be right back." The doctor David before he turned around and then left quickly before he closed the door. Ray then laid his head back before feeling a thump on his skin and then he opened his eyes and looked in Devon's wide eyes.
"I am sorry, master. I couldn't keep you safe." Devon said as it went to Ray's side and laid down curling up into a little ball. Ray then took a deep breath as he looked up at the ceiling while he waited for someone to come and check up on him. He then felt relieved that he watched the doctor and a woman close to his age in a business suit walk in before she looked over at Ray.
"Hello, Mr Raymond. I am a sign language interpreter. If you need anything I will be able to ask the doctor for you." The woman said as Ray opened his eyes again and looked at her. The woman then watched as he signed asking about his dad before a sullen look fell onto her face.
"What? What's going on?" The doctor asked feeling confused as he still didn't know what Ray was asking and then watched as the woman grabbed his arm. She then pulled him away while Ray watched before he sighed quietly.
"Don't worry, master. They will take care of you in any way they can. I will make sure of it." Devon said as it came out of the ball and looked around for the doctor and the woman. Ray looked around as he hoped that they would both be back but knew that his time was fixing so he started to feel a little impatient.
"We're back, Mr Raymond." The woman signed as she stood at the end of his hospital bed with a heartbroken look on her face. Ray felt like there was something wrong by the look on the woman's face but he didn't want to make assumptions.
"Your father didn't make it. And I saw your charts. Your not long after him. But I work with a company that can help you. Would you like me to help save you?" The woman signed as she made sure that the doctor wasn't watching. Devon then turned on and then sat up and made a motion as of it was yawning before it looked up at the woman making the woman jump a little bit.
"Oh uh, alright." The woman said to herself before she then looked up at Ray again even though she knew that he might say yes to her. The woman then took a deep breath as she tried to figure out what she was going to tell Ray.
"I have to go. So I really need an answer. If you need some time to think about it I will give it to you. But you really have to think fast." The woman signed to Ray before Devon turned to him to watch his reaction. Ray looked down at Devon and then looked up at the woman and then nodded slowly so he didn't get put through a lot of pain.
"Great, we will come and get you tonight. Just stay still and get some rest. I will see you both later." The woman signed with a huge smile on her face before she turned and left. Devon then turned around and looked Ray in the eyes as it sat down on his stomach.
"Master, do you really trust that woman to help you? She is triggering some red flags." Devon said before Ray looked at it. He knew that Devon could feel that something was off but he knew that he had to take this chance.
"Alright then, master. I will follow you." Devon said before it curled back up and powered down. Ray then sighed as he closed his eyes and started to get some sleep not knowing that the doctor had now quietly sneaked into his room.
"You may have gotten some help. But I will be the one getting your organs." The doctor whispered as he watched Ray sleep before he turned and left. Ray then immediately woken up and looked around breathing heavily and watched the tv turned on to a show he used to enjoy with his mom.
"It's not fair." Ray signed as he watched the tv before he tried to look around and then groaned as he felt some pain before he put his head back to the way it was. Ray then watched the door open and watched as Lydia walked in before he rolled his eyes in frustration.
"Ray, thank goodness your alive. I am so sorry for how I acted. I was just upset and I didn't know if you were able to come home or not." Lydia said before Ray looked away not listening to her as she watched him feeling hopeful. He wanted her to feel horrible but he knew that he was unable to talk so that plan was impossible to go follow through with.
"Please sign something. I just learned that you are not able to talk but I can make sure that I understand you." Lydia said as Ray kept staring in another direction feeling upset about the whole situation. The woman then knocked on the door and Ray then smiled as he turned his head before he watched shocked as Lydia quickly ran to the door scared and locked it.
"Ma'am, please unlock the door. That woman is here to take master away." Devon said while it was still curled up before Lydia turned around to see what had said that to her. She then shook her head before she went to Ray's hospital bed and then held onto the edge of the bed as she looked in Ray's eyes.
"No, I am not leaving until you tell me sorry. Please open your mouth and forgive me. I want you to move your mouth and tell me that you forgive me." Lydia said as her voice shook as if she was about to break down from guilt. Ray then shook his head again since he did not forgive her and wanted her to feel the pain that he was currently in.
"What on earth?!" Lydia asked as she seen Devon and watched it uncurl and look up at Lydia with a serious look on its projected face. Ray watched while smiling a little as he knew that he would do anything to get out of forgiving her for what had happened that lead to him losing his dad.
"Ma'am, please step away from my master or I will contact security." Devon said in a calm time as Lydia watched it and then looked at Ray. She then shook her head as the guilt in her eyes turned to anger as she didn't know what was going on.
"No. I am not leaving. I will destroy you if you contact the security team, you little fucking rat." Lydia said as she got closer to it while she tried to intimidate it. Ray then chuckled a little even though it was still silent and then watched as Devon looked Lydia in the eyes.
"Ma'am, I am a robotic dog. You cannot threaten me and expect me to get scared. Now I must ask for the final time. Please leave my masters room or I will call security." Devon said before Lydia paced around chuckling angry to herself as she rubbed her head. She knew that she wasn't going to win but she had to do something so that she could look good to him and guilt him into forgiving her.
"I can't believe that I am fighting with a stupid robot." Lydia said loud enough for both Ray and Devon to hear her before Devon sat down. Devon then sat down next to Ray again and silently called for security as Lydia paced and ranted in front of the both of them.
"No one in this room can leave now. I have contacted the authorities." Devon said before Ray noticed a horrified look on Lydia's face. It was obvious no one was told that she was coming and she didn't anticipate anything standing up for Ray even though he still had no idea how he had hurt her.
Five:
Ray watched as Lydia paced around the room faster and faster as her panic and fear became more obvious while they heard stomping from down the hallway. Lydia then had an idea on what she might be able to do before she went and unlocked the door and then she went into a corner and curled into a ball and put her hands on her head.
"That won't work." Devon said as it looked over at Lydia and watched her lift her head to look up at him. She then nodded and then lowered her head again and then started to fake cry as the security guards rushed in.
"What happened in here?" One of the guards asked and then looked around trying to get some of the story before the two of them could talk. Before Lydia could lift her head and say anything, Devon stood up making the team look over at it before it projected everything that happened on the wall. Lydia then watched on in horror before the security team looked at her shocked and disappointed.
"Ma'am, you're coming with us." The leader said as he held his hand out to help her up even though she didn't want to go. Lydia then shook her head as she watched the group with a serious look on her face as she didn't know what was going to happen next.
"Ma'am, I wasn't asking. Come with us now." The leader then repeated as he got closer to her as she tried to find a way out of there. Lydia then opened the window and jumped into a nearby tree as the security guards reached out to her as the woman and her team walked over to Ray.
"Damn it. Well there she goes." The leader said as the woman and her team carefully moved Ray to their gurney and then started to transport him outside. The woman stopped as Lydia ran to them and then frowned angrily as she smacked the woman hard.
"Be careful, girl. You may not know who I am but you don't want to know. So I suggest you stop acting like this and act much better if you ever want a boyfriend. Yeah I know you never had found a boyfriend and I can make sure that you won't be able to." The woman said making Lydia watched her terrified. Even though she didn't know the woman, she knew what the woman was saying was true.
"Yes, ma'am." Lydia said quietly while holding her head low before the woman raised her hand slowly. She then smiled a little when Lydia got out of her way without saying anything.
"Good girl, now stay out of our way." The woman said before she looked forward and headed outside with the team and watched them load him and Devon into a truck as Ray fell asleep. The woman then sighed as she wiped her forehead before she went and sat next to the window to the driver.
"Ma'am, can I have a minute?" Devon asked as it sat on Ray's stomach turning its head to the woman as she looked up at it. The woman then nodded as she hoped that the robotic dog wouldn't wake him up.
"What are your plans with my master? I have to make sure that he will be safe. I promised that he would be safe the moment I looked at him." Devon said and then watched as the woman form a smile on her face. The woman then watched as Devon stood up and jump onto her lap before she grunted quietly.
"All I want to do is what I promised him in the hospital. I am going to save him and it will be all that I will do. You don't have to be very worried about him." The woman said before Devon turned around and jumped onto the bed. Devon then turned its head as the van slowly came to a stop while the woman held onto her seat.
"I am not scared for him. You should be scared for you." Devon said before the woman looked at it while feeling confused. She then looked forward and then waited for the van to start moving again as Devon looked around and walking around.
"Are you supposed to be awake or?" The woman asked as she watched Devon walk on and around Ray. Devon did not respond as the woman started to feel worried about her safety with Devon around but she knew that if she tried to remove deacon away from Ray then it would end badly for her. The woman then sat back in her seat before she lifted her hand making Devon look at her and then watched her knock on the window leading to the driver's seat.
"Yes, ma'am? Is there anything wrong?" A man asked as he kept driving while the woman stared Devon in his little robotic eyes. She didn't want to tell the driver about her fear for the robotic dog but she knew that she had to do something so she wouldn't look suspicious.
"How long do we have to get there?" She asked before the driver then stopped at a red light as she hoped that they were close to the building. Sweat started to bead on the woman's face as the driver stayed quiet as he looked for the answer. She wanted to be patient but knew that if she had done anything to calm herself down, then there was a possibility of her getting in danger.
"Oh here we go. We should be there soon, ma'am. Please don't worry." The man said before the woman nodded and them she looked at Ray. She then sighed quietly as she thought about his situation before Devon looked at the woman again.
"Is there anything wrong, miss?" Devon asked as it seen that the demeanor of the woman had changed from terrified to sad. Devon then tilted its head as it waited for the woman to respond and watched as the woman lifted her head to look up at it.
"I'm sorry. I am just thinking about Ray and what he went through. His ex best friend got mad and dumped him out in the desert and then no one came him for a couple days. And when his father did come for him, some maniac had come and got into an accident with their car. Immediately killing his father and putting his life in danger." The woman said before Devon looked at her confused. It didn't understand why the woman would care for Ray but knew that it's opinion of the woman was changing.
"And then his ex best friend goes to the hospital where he was at and goes crazy trying to get him to forgive her for putting him in that situation." The woman said as she leaned back and then placed her hand on her head while Devon looked over at Ray before looking at the woman. It then went down and walked over to the woman and then sat next to her and scanned her as she stared in his monitor while it displayed baby blue puppy eyes.
"What are you doing?" The woman asked as she looked down at Devon while it finished its scan before it shook its head and then looked up at her. Devon then secretly ordered a robot pet for the woman as it knew that she was lonely due to her job.
"Welcome to your new pet, Sarah. It will be at your home in one to two weeks. Thank you for your patience." Devon said before jumping next to Ray and laying next to him again. Sarah then looked at Devon shocked before she put her hands up as she didn't know what to do or how to react.
"No please don't. If you can't cancel, that will be alright." Sarah said and them watched Devon curl up again and power down so it could save battery. A few minutes later, Ray opened his eyes as Devon was snuggling next to him while a team of men grab his gurney and carefully took him out.
"We're here, Mr Ray. Don't you worry." Sarah said as she walked next to the team with a half smile on her face as she was still scared that something would go wrong. She didn't want to lose her life but she also wanted to challenge Devon to see what it had planned in dealing with her.
