Earlier, Morning

Sunlight was hovering over the walls as it's rays was shining down bellow. A flock of birds was flying around as they almost flew over the heads of a boy with short scarlet blood hair, along with purely red eyes. At the age of 10 years old. Nero Spartacus ducked from the incoming flight of birds as he then looks up at the sky. 

After running up the hill, he sees two familiar kids under the tree as he then walks up to them. 

Nero: Eren, Mikasa. 

Eren: Nero? What are you doing here?

Nero: On a walk, why? Are you collecting more firewood?

Mikasa: *nods* We should get back. 

Right as Mikasa walks down the hill, Nero looks back and sees Eren having a tear drop on his face. 

Nero: Eren, are you... teary eyed?

Eren: ?

Nero: *shakes head* Come on. 

The two boys followed back to where Mikasa was as they head back to the city of Shiganshina. 

Year 845

Eren: Look, just don't tell anyone I was tearing up. 

Mikasa: I won't.

Nero: It's unlike you to cry with no real reason... Shouldn't you ask Grisha for a checkup?

Eren: Don't be so stupid! I can't tell him. 

Hannes: What are you crying about, Eren?

The three kids look up ahead as they see a drunken Garrison soldier that know well, Hannes. 

Eren: Mr. Hannes..

Hannes: Did Mikasa get on your case or something? Or did Nero beat you up?

Nero: I didn't-

Eren: Huh? What makes you think I was crying? *sniffs* Whoa, you reek of alcohol. 

Suddenly, three other drunkard Garrison soldiers were laughing as the four turned to their direction.

Nero: Don't tell me you're drinking again, Mr. Hannes. 

Hannes: You guys wanna join in?

Nero: We're not of age! And aren't you suppose to be working?

Hannes: Yup! We're guarding the gate today. We're stuck here all day, so we end up getting hungry and thirsty. If some booze happens to get into our drink, so what? It's no big deal. 

Nero: *whispers* Says the drunk.

Eren: What if something happens?! Can you fight like that?!

Hannes: What do you mean?

Eren: You know what I mean! I'm talking about if they break into the walls and get into the city!

Hannes: *headache* Geez, Eren. Don't go yelling like that. 

Garrison Soldier: You got spunk, doctor's son. If they do bust down the walls, we'll take care of them no problem. But that ain't happened ever since a hundred years ago.
