"THE MARTIAL ART THAT YOU WILL BE LEARNING IS KYUSHO JITSU," Karasuma-san started. He will be the one to train me, "Kyusho Jitsu is a kind of martial art where we will be focusing on targeting pressure points. You don't have to be particularly strong to be able to execute it. You just have to be agile for you to strike your opponent's pressure points and have the advantage." he explained."I am going to teach you two common sequences." he first demonstrated it.
He called an assistant to help him. He told me to watch closely.
"The attacker would be him and I will be the defender," in the signal. The attacker uses his left hand to grab Karasuma-san with his right hand formed into a fist, and a punch aimed at his head follows. Karasuma-san stops it with an instinctive warding-off gesture. As the attacker prepares to punch again, Karasuma-san strikes his forearm from two directions and then buckled his arms. Using his right arm to keep his opponent immobilized and Karasuma-san stopped his attack midway on the attacker's chin.
"This is the morote-uke performance or technique. If you simply continue to the energy of your strike, pull your right forearm against your body and the attacker will be trapped and helpless, with his head motionless and within easy reach of your left fist. One blow will generally finish it."
I take a mental note of everything that he said. Seeing it being executed made me understand it better.
"Take note that before striking to the head, which can be highly mobile and difficult to hit, trap and control the attacker so his body and pressure points are immobile, got it?"
"Crystal clear, Sir," I answered.
Then after that, I tried to do it by myself. He guided me whenever I am in the wrong stance. He also let me try it on different kinds of possible actions of an attacker. After three hours and a few tries and corrections, I earned the approval of Karasuma-san that I can decently perform the morote-uke.
For two days we only focused on execution. He taught me ways how to dodge the perpetrator and to improve my reaction time.
"You learn fast," he subtly praised me which made me happy.
"I dance, so I guess familiarizing and memorizing has become a habit of mine." I reasoned and he slightly nod his head as his eyes trail from my head to toe.
"And you also are in a good shape. Would you like to have an extra class?" I blink in surprise and it seems like he noticed the confused look on my face, "Would you like to learn how to use a weapon as a self-defense practice?"
The offer is tempting. But what if my schedule won't be considerate of it?
"Does it need more days of training? Because I think I might need to ask the producer about it."
He shook his head, "We already finished covering the only lesson that I was supposed to teach you for three days."
"Did you just say that we are technically done?" He nodded.
"And that was supposed to be the lesson for me for three days?" I confirmed and he nodded again.
"I didn't know you will be able to adapt it so quickly that it only took you three hours to get the hang of the basics and execute it decently considering the fact that you are not a pro. Since we have three days according to the agreement. Might as well use the remaining time for other self-defense techniques."
