There was once a small flame on a candle. This flame sat on a small child's nightstand, watching over him. Every night the little boy would talk to the flame. He would thank the flame for keeping the monsters away. The little boy told the flame of the monster that would come out of the closet. The little boy also told the flame of the hideous beast lurking in the shadows on the walls. He would toss and turn at night, afraid they would get him. But the boy was positive that the flame on the candle would protect him. The flame fell in love with the little boy and felt brave because he would keep the monsters away.

One night the flame saw some shadows creeping up to the boys bed. The flame jumped off his candle and ran to the shadow. The inky black figures disappeared. Then the flame saw more shadows in the corner of the room. The flame quickly chased them away also. The boy woke up and started crying. The flame thought he was scared of the monsters and rushed to the boys bed and tried to hug him. The boy screamed in bitter pain. Two towering figures came rushing in from what the flame guest was the closet. They came and grabbed the boy while beating the flame that now enveloped the room. The monsters ran to the closet and rushed out, the flame at their tails. The flame rushed after them, through the hall and down the stares. They finally made it out of another closet which ran out into a huge world of black. Loud inhumane screams broke through the black with red and white lights flashing. The flame had no where to go, no way of chasing after the boy. Something hit the fire with pain. It was killing him. He tried to run, but there was no where to run. The pain kept coming, slowly draining his life away. Soon the flame was nothing but an ember. He looked up in time to see another creature looming over him, holding something. The creature tilted the thing and the flame left this terrible, painful world in a small puff of steam. His last thought was he could not save that little boy from the monsters.
