atsumu had been making an effort to talk to his brother since he walked you home that night.

"can we talk?"

osamu scowled. he rather keep scrolling on his phone, but atsumu seemed adamant about sitting down and talking. so he gave in with a small sigh, "sure."

atsumu sat down facing him.

"okay, so i don't know what's been up with you and y/n, but you guys seriously have to just talk about it," osamu was about to give an angry protest but his brother continued, "especially you."

that only made the silver haired boy to become even more bothered.

"can you keep your nose out of my business?" he stood up to leave, though he wasn't fast enough.

atsumu grabbed him by his arm, "why do you keep avoiding her? aren't you guys friends? you can't just keep running off when she tries to talk to you. it's childish." osamu was slowly slipping out of the other's grasp, "don't you care about her?" that sentence managed to put a halt to osamu struggling.

neither boy said anything for a good few seconds.

"don't you?" atsumu repeated, earning a small groan.

"yes. i do." he mumbled.

"then act like it. stop being an idiot."

osamu hated that it was his brother who made him realize how silly this whole situation was. he hadn't spoken to you for weeks — and over what? the truth is he dragged this out because he was petty and prideful.

"did i finally knock some sense into you?"

osamu pulled his arm out of his hand.

"don't make a big deal out of it."

"good. god, that took forever. what was this all about, anyway?"

"i don't know." osamu lied. he knew exactly what it was, but thinking about it now it seemed so small. in the moment it was big, now it isn't. he couldn't deny that he was slightly embarrassed by the way he acted.

atsumu scoffed, "c'mon, what was it?"

"nothing you need to worry about."

atsumu raised his hands in defense. he was itching for an answer, but he didn't want to push his luck. he already got him to swallow his pride, that was good enough for today.

osamu thought about texting you, but his brother scolded him, insisting that he talk to you in person.

he was slightly annoyed, but he knew he was right. he didn't know why atsunu cared so much all of a sudden, though he just ignored it.

you sat entered the miya's house, looking around. atsumu wasn't there to greet you like he normally was. you sat down at the table, waiting, but even after a few minutes there was still no one.

you sighed, "where the hell is he?" you grumbled.

"he's out."

osamu suddenly said, making you turn around. he was in the doorway of his room.

"oh, 'samu.. do you know when he'll be back?"

osamu seemed to soften at the nickname. he was relieved you used it.

he shook his head, "no, i think he's gonna be a while."

you nodded wordlessly, unsure if you should try and continue the conversation or just back down. you let out a short breath of relief when osamu spoke up again, "can i talk to you?"

you nodded again, a smile cracking your features.

osamu stepped out of his room, coming around the couch and taking his spot next to you. his brows were furrowed with concern as he looked at you, his normally steady gaze wavering, and his fingers subtly tapping on his knee.

your friend had never been this nervous around you.

"i want to say i'm sorry," he started, his eyes running over your face frantically, like he was scared to look you directly in your eyes.

you sighed, biting the insides of your mouth, "i really missed you, 'samu. i was really confused."

"i know, and i'm sorry," osamu said again, "i owe you an explanation."

you nodded again, eager to hear what this was about. you thought you already had a pretty good idea of what
caused all this however.

still, you listened.

"i just felt.."

osamu stopped mid-sentence with a curse, "shit."

"what?" you asked.

"this is embarrassing, y/n."

you watched as he struggled, your lips curling a gentle smile. you knew how hard it was for osamu to apologize - both the miya's actually. for as long as you could remember they've always had a lot of pride.

he took a small breath before trying again, "atsumu called me the lesser brother and you went along with it. i just felt hurt, i guess," osamu said slowly, making your smile drop.

shit.

you knew this is what it was. you would've apologized sooner if he hadn't been avoiding you.

"and you didn't say anything to defend me. still, i was petty and immature," your friend finished with a shaky breath, clearly struggling to calm his nerves.

"i'm so sorry osamu," you reached out, holding his hand in his, "i should've said something.."

osamu stayed silent.

"i'm so sorry i didn't.. but.." you started, inching a little closer, your knees touching his legs, "i want you to know that i don't think that of you. never. you're my best friend."

"is that true?"

you furrowed your brows as you threw your arms around him, pulling the boy in for a hug.

"of course it's true."

he returned the hug, his arms loosely hung around your torso.

you stayed that way with him for a few seconds before pulling away, "i'm sorry, samu."

"i'm sorry too."

you held his gaze, unsure of what to do or say next. the uncertainty of the situation made you rub your arms, trying to pick at your skin until osamu slapped your hand away.

"stop that. are you nervous?"

you let out an anxious laugh, "yes..! i don't know what to do! are we okay?"

osamu offered a small smile, "we're okay.."

you took in a breath and pulled him for another hug, "i missed you."

"i missed you too," his arms wrapped around you more tightly this time.

this was the most affectionate he had ever been with you.
