The venue was enchanting. It was everything you had wished for; the most beautiful outdoor garden venue, amazing friends as your bridesmaids, and an exquisite husband. But why did you feel like there was something wrong?
Of course, there's always weddings-day jitters, your nerves and the tiny voice in your head telling you not to wed. Telling you that there's something wrong with your fiancé and you must leave him, alone, standing at that alter. But that wasn't it... You loved him, truly and deeply. So why did you feel like there was something missing?
A knock was placed on your dressing room door and it cracked open. You glance over your shoulder, looking away from your reflection in the mirror.
"Oh my god- you look amazing!" A soft voice filled the room as she pushed the door shut before she approached me. "The dress!"
You both extended your arms and engaged in a light hug, not wanting to ruin your makeup or anything. She smiles up at you as you draw away from your hug.
"Oh honey- it's okay. Your fiancé will cry when he sees you walking down that isle. It's okay to be nervous-"
"I'm not nervous, Isobel. I just feel like something is off, like my heart- isn't beating the same like it used to."
Isobel is your best friend, your maid of honor, the woman who introduced you to your fiancé in the first place. She knew that there was a spark between the both of you, she read the relationship perfectly.
"Are you saying you don't love him anymore?" Isobel tilts her head in a sort of disappointment.
"No! It's just..." This was foolish, this must be the little voice in your head. "You're right, it's just the nerves. I'm scared."
"It's okay honey, you have time to relax. Just breathe okay? When the ceremony is about to start and you still wish to leave, just wave me down first?" You smile at her and embrace her quickly before she flees from the room.
You breathe in deeply as you turn to face the mirror again. You take in how smooth your skin looks under the soft makeup. You admire how bright your eyes look, and how beautiful your hair is styled. Isobel is right, it's just the nerves.
You're going to marry an amazing, talented, handsome and kind man. He was everything you'd wish for and more.
Another knock landed on your door and you smile brightly.
"Isobel, it's alright. I'll be walking down the isle." You turn over your shoulder as the door opens, but the view made your heart sink.
"Having second thoughts?" His voice sent a chill down your spine. You watch as he shuts the door and twists the lock.
"What are you doing here?" You drag your dress as you step down from a small podium.
"I needed to see you, that's all." He took a small step in your direction, staring down at his feet and not fully taking you in.
"Well, you've got a look so leave. Now. You shouldn't even be here." Your arms fold over your chest and swallow a lump of thirst that was stuck in your throat.
"I mean your dress," his gaze slowly pans up your figure. The gown of your dress was tight and flowing at your feet. "You look-"
You abruptly cut him off as his eyes rolled over your chest and up your shoulders. "You shouldn't be in here!"
"I'll leave." You smile at his words but that smile was quickly taken aback as he kept moving in your direction. "If you can confess one thing."
"I'm not confessing anything." You take a small step to the side, there was a soft couch beside the podium and you felt it against your leg.
