Since my parents divorced and saw my mother past out crying every night, I stop believing in love. My father ruined my mother’s life, she was worn out and torn into pieces when we got out of court and officially they’ll live separately.

Then I met a man named Gray.

He is conceited, loud and outrageous. A head turner as well. Everyone would fall for him in just a snap of his hand.

I hate him.

Suddenly we faced a debate match, he was my greatest rival. It’s a hard battle to win and he knows I won’t give up, especially to him.

Before the final match, he approached me backstage calling me on a truce. He said that If I win he will never ever show his face again.

“And if you win?” I asked.

“We’ll go the other way around, you’ll have to see me every day!” And he was serious.

Last topic was divorce, I almost faint. It was an issue of morality and legality. I couldn’t think any clearer. I buckle. I’m inconsistent and so I loose.

“Hey ya! So I won Zia! See you tomorrow.” I heard Gray approached me. I was still sunken on my delusions until this man came again to bring hell.

As soon as I entered my fused class I can choke by his presence, ever worse I can’t breath to stand the thought that I have to sit beside him for two hours!

This would be the most provoking and hell-made week of my life.

I always see and I have to see him every day. Seatmate. Library partner. Lab partner. Even a dance partner! Every class, everything about school I have to do it with him.

On a Wednesday, something has changed. He didn’t go to school. I was like it’s a big hell yes! Wohooo!

But on my way home I saw him. I saw Gray sunken on his shoulders, staring at nowhere, lost.

“I should have the best day today, until you came.” I sighed.

“Hi there baby! You missed me?” He answered still sitting on the roadside.

“Don’t call me baby, it’s not my name actually and no one will be happy to have disaster by their side.” I gave a dead-stare.

“I want ice cream.” He said.

I was surprised, he didn’t answered me the way I expected it to be.

Is this a child asking for an ice cream in front of me?

And then he started walking, I didn’t know what happened but when he grabbed my arms I suddenly just go with the flow and started following him.

We ate ice cream. He told me a joke, I didn’t laughed. He told me another one and gave a no-reaction-face and put ice cream on my mouth.

“I’m dying, please laugh at my jokes!” He said seriously.

Then I broke into laughter that I never did before.

“So desperate huh? HAHAHA. I couldn’t wait until you die for your corny jokes!” I said genuinely.

“You look beautiful when you laugh especially on close-up. You should date me, I make you happy.” Then he handed a spoonful of ice cream on his mouth.

I felt rush on me, I felt shy. It’s the first that someone told me that because I don’t usually hang-out with boys. I turned red.

“You looked red.” Then he laughed.

“I’m white sand so when I feel hot I turned red. Maybe the aircon isn’t on.” I defended myself.

Realizing that I said the worst defense in my life, we both broke into laughter.
