You forced open your eyes from their rest, and rolled over to be greeted with a ray of sunshine beaming through your window. You glance over at your desk, pushed against the wall at the end of your bed, seeing your unfinished drawing from the previous night and your phone's muted alarm for 6:00 a.m. You aren't assigned many work days, but you usually go in everyday to earn some extra money anyway. You throw your covers off, scrunching them up as they fold over each other and almost fall off the bed, pushing your energy-lacking body out of bed and mope over to your wardrobe to grab your work uniform. "Maybe today something interesting will happen, other than me actually bothering to finish unpacking the living room" you grumble to yourself.

You hastily threw on your uniform as usual and walked down the stairs, picking up your phone, (F/C) bag, and throwing on the matching jacket before leaving while glancing at the time on your phone... You had just about an hour to get to the local corner store to buy some food and your favourite drink.

. . .

After coming out of the corner store with your food for the day and (F/D) in the same re-usable bottle, you headed over to a nearby bench to take a little break and enjoy your 'breakfast'. As you were eating, you noticed a bunch of shady looking monsters-all of them looked like skeletons walking close by. While staring at them without noticing, you made eye contact with a glitchy looking one, but swiftly moved your gaze away in case they noticed you had been staring. It's not like you cared if someone was a monster or a human, they just looked shady as hell.

. . .

You arrived at the café about an hour later, switching over the sign on the door from closed to open. You took off your jacket before Angel, a tall, blonde girl who also worked there, gave you a big hug and welcomed you as usual. Well, her name wasn't actually Angel, it was what you had always called her. She was a childhood friend and had always managed to squeeze her way back into your life no matter the situation, even if you had never been as enthusiastic as she was.

"Hi Y/N! As usual, you arrive just on time." She greeted with the same enthusiasm she always displays. "You don't need to bother about cleaning up today because Kai and I already finished it! No need to thank me! Are you willing to take orders today?"

"Nah, I don't mind." You reluctantly agreed,

"Thanks!" she said as you followed her around the counter, as you still needed to clock in and put your bag in the back.

Later that shift, as you were busy returning the tray from the previous order while standing down at the counter, you heard the bell ring, signalling that someone had just entered, soon turning to see who it was. It was the group of skeletons that you had seen about an hour ago. Then you realised that since they were the only customers that needed to be served, and you had already committed to taking orders for Angel today, so you would have to serve them. She was just so hard to say no to.

Hesitantly, you walked over to their table, with the notepad in hand. Being the largest group in the café, they had taken a seat at the largest table that was right next to the window and nearby the door. There were four skeletons from what you could see: One had a cracked skull and an axe (or was it a fake? You couldn't tell), One was glitching, one had a hood up and two different coloured eyes (?), and one was coated in black goo with tentacles. That last one looked like he would be the leader if the group was a gang, although they looked like a gang in general already.

"Hi there, you guys ready to order?" You asked politely as you could, as you attempted to avoid any eye contact with them.

"Just plain coffee." spoke the hooded one blankly,

"Yeah, same" added the one with a cracked skull.

"I'll also have the same, but add cream to that" The glitched one spoke, staring you directly in the eyes. You wrote down each person's order on the notepad before focusing on the one coated in goo and waiting for his answer.

"Coffee. Black" he finally responded in the least enthusiastic tone he could, without looking at you. You added down his order and smiled sarcastically at him as you walked away. You had a feeling that the one with tentacles didn't like you very much. Or at least didn't like you more than the rest, none of them exactly seemed to friendly. Shortly after, you returned to their table and handed them each of their orders. But just before leaving, you noticed the one with a cracked skull staring at you with a murderous look, as if he wanted to kill you. You shrugged it off though because he obviously wouldn't try to murder you in public. Right?

. . .

Closer to the end of your shift, the majority of your co-workers and all the other customers had already left, leaving only you, Angel, and the skeletons. Or so you thought. You were standing next to one of the tables you had just finished cleaning while you waited for the group of skeletons to finally leave or for Angel to tell you she would lock up, when you heard your phone go off. Unlocking it, you saw Angel had texted you saying:

---

"Hey Y/N! Soz but I'm going to have to leave you to lock up today, I've already left because I have something I really need to do today. Hope you don't mind x"

"I don't mind, I was planning on locking up today anyway"

---

That was a complete lie.

---

"Thank you sm! See you tomorrow and remember to try get some sleep tonight xx"

"I'll try, see you tomorrow!"

---

You slid your phone back in your pocket and turned to walk back to the counter, but stepped back after being greeted with the urge of needing to dodge something. Not even seconds later, an axe flew past you, barely missing your face and striking the wall beside you. You stood frozen for a second before turning to look over at the table of skeletons, seeing the one with the cracked skull standing and having clearly thrown that axe at you. You grumbled with annoyance at the attempt on your life and began reprimanding him:

"You realise you're going to have to pay for that, right?" You stated, pointing behind you to the axe that was now lodged in the wall. You were more irritated by the injured wall than nearly being beheaded by a flying axe, although something you never imagined would happen, then turning around and returning to your previous position behind the counter.

While you waited, you began to sketch at the counter, but after roughly 30 minutes, you began to fall asleep. Before you knew it, your head had dropped onto your arm as you dozed off. You didn't immediately wake up, and neither did the skeletons bother to wake you. They probably wouldn't care if you weren't awake in time to accept the money. Most people would just leave.

. . .

Someone slammed their hand down on the counter, startling you out of your sleep, and making you turn to look at them. Standing at the counter, the glitching skeleton was visibly agitated.

"Do you need something?" You asked confused,

"Obviously. I want to pay now." He replied irritated.

"Oh. Right" You acknowledged as you handed him the tables bill, although being ignored by this glitchy monster as he placed a stack of cash on the counter in front of you. Once you had added it all up, you discovered that he had given you extra, but him and the others were already long gone by the time you could tell them. Guess it's extra money for you then, surprised they would even pay you in the first place. Especially after that earlier incident, they didn't strike you as the type of people... monsters to pay.

It didn't take you much time to wipe down their now empty table, since surprisingly most of them didn't leave much of a mess. You swiftly grabbed your bag and slipped your jacket back on after clocking out in the back and locking the door as you left.

As it wasn't quite dark yet, you headed outside to eat in front of the library, where you knew it would be peaceful. That way you could finish your food and work on the very last part of your assignment.

'Wait, that skeleton never took his fucking axe out the wall.' You sighed, remembering the current state of the wall. Guess you'll have to head in early tomorrow so none of your co-workers notice. Great.

You quickly departed from the library after finishing your assignment and returned home. You arrived around 9:30 p.m., but you quickly decided to put on your pyjamas and go straight to bed as it was late, you were tired, and there was nothing else to do tonight. You wanted to feel the warm embrace of your comfy bed again
