Staying With You

Adrian sits at the bedside, concerned for his friend as he lays unconscious. Still in the hospital bed. This night shouldn't be spent like this. This had been a special night. Sami's special night. Yes, he had won the NXT title. Sami should be out celebrating his win. His win over Adrian, becoming the new champion. Although Adrian was upset over the loss, he was also more than ecstatic for Sami. He had worked years and years to get to this. To get to WWE's developmental, to become their champion. This was his moment. He definitely wouldn't ruin this time for his best friend. They had hugged in the ring before Adrian left for backstage, leaving Sami to celebrate his emphatic win.

"Adrian?"
"Hey champ."
"Champ?"
"Yeah."
"I won?"
"Yep. Helluva kick." Sami thought for a moment. Yes, Adrian was right. He did win. It was the biggest win of his career so far. He won the gold. Championship gold. Finally. A smile crossed his face. "You remember it now?"
"Yeah. It was a great match. Best match of our careers."
"It was. It ended perfectly for you. The new NXT champion, Sami Zayn. Has a ring to it doesn't it?"
"It does. Wait, so why am I in a hospital bed?"
"You got attacked after the match."
"You? Did you do it?"
"No! No way. Damn no. I'd never do that to you. All the superstars came out to the ring. Enzo, Cass, Solomon-"
"Solomon? Enzo? Cass?"
"Yeah."
"Solomon got onto NXT TV finally. Good to hear my other two buddies came out."
"He did. All the locker room came out."
"Even Kevin?"
"Yeah..." He sighed.
"Adrian, whats with the sigh? He said if I won the match he'd come down to celebrate. He'd make it a night I'd never forget."
"Yeah, oh yeah he did that alright."
"Was he the one that..."
"Yeah, Sami I'm sorry. Let me explain what happened properly."

*Flashback*

Helluva kick! The crowd were going crazy! Hysterical! Sami went for the cover on Adrian... 1...2...3!! Sami sat for a moment. His dream had just come true. He was the NXT champion. He had finally arrived, he proved his worth to himself. People believed in him, in his loveable character, his in ring ability. Now he finally believed in himself. He stood tall, the referee handed over the title. That was now his title. He earned it. The crowd was still going crazy, theat hadn't let up all match really but man didn't it feel good for Sami.

Sami went to each turnbuckle, standing on the second rope, telling the crowd, this is our title. I did it. This is for us. Adrian allowed him to celebrate while he sat near the ropes. The fellow NXT superstars came down to the ring. Kevin made sure he was the first one to get to Sami. His best friend. The guy who yes he had fallen out with a few times, they fought, what friends don't? No matter what though, they always seemed to be there for each other, celebrate with each other when they accomplished major things, won titles. They would put their differences aside and be extremely happy for one another.

Every superstar in that ring hugged Sami, congratulated him. The whole locker room was so happy for him. Hell, some of the trainers came out to congratulate Sami. He was a popular man backstage. Everybody loved him. Every man and his dig loved Sami. He just had this loveable personality.

Adrian finally got up to his feet, initially stumbling. Everyone but Sami moved back to give the pair space. Sami placed the coveted NXT title on the ring canvas before extending his hand out towards Adrian. The brit stood there shocked. Is that what their friendship had come to over the last month? Just a handshake? No, Adrian wouldn't accept that. No way. He kicked Sami's hand away. A handshake wasn't good enough in this situation. He pulled Sami into a hug. That was better. It felt better, although they had gotten more personal than they ever had, this was the way to end it all.

They would train together once more. Laugh and joke around in training matches. Generally have a lot of fun as they used to. All day everyday. They could prank each other in the mornings like they used to.

"Congrats Sami. You deserve it. You earnt this. Time to shine. I'm proud of you Sami. See you in the performance centre tomorrow morning."
"Thank you Adrian. That means a lot. See you tomorrow."

Adrian held one if Sami's arms up high before leaving his best friend to celebrate. Best friend, that'll never change. No way. This had cemented their friendship. Nothing could ever tear them apart. Not ever. Adrian left the ring and headed backstage. Everyone else soon followed aswell, leaving Sami to soak up everything. All the emotions, this electric atmosphere. A few tears left his eyes. This was an absolutely amazing time. Nothing could ruin this. Nothing at all.

He sat on the ring apron, staring at the title. His title. Wow, that would take some getting used to. NXT champion, Sami Zayn. That sounded brilliant. It was perfect. More tears left his eyes. He still couldn't believe he had done it.

Kevin Owens came back down to Sami. They celebrated a little together and embraced each other. A private moment between the pair. Words were exchanged. Kevin helped him off the apron and began to help him walk up the ramp.

They were walking slowly, just heading up the ramp when Kevin turned. He shoved Sami hard to the ground. The smaller man grabbed the back of his neck, writhing on pain. Kevin then preceeded to pick Sami up once more and powerbomb him onto the apron. His head flung back and hit the apron hard, knocking the new champion out cold.

William Regal came out to check on Sami and warn off Kevin from attacking Sami further. He was disgusted with Kevins actions. He was given a chance at NXT and he decided to attack the new champion. Sucker him in, thinking he cared about about him when he didn't. It was all about jumping the line. Fast forwarding his was to the title. It was a clever idea but to do that to someone you call or called your best friend. That itself, that was unbelievable.

NXT had gone off air, that was when Adrian was told about Sami, the instant he heard his friend had been attacked he was immediately running to find him. Along the way he saw Enzo and Cass, he asked them if they could pack up his and Sami's stuff for him and bring it to the hospital for them. They gladly said yes. Anything to help their friends.

*Back in the hospital room*

"Kevin did this?"
"Yeah... he did. I'm sorry Sami. I'm sorry I wasnt there to protect you. If I had known he would hav-"
"Shhhhhh, it's ok. I know you would have stayed by me. I know you would have been upset because if losing the title. Adrian it's ok. I couldn't blame you at all."
"I still feel like I should have been able to stop it."
"You couldn't. You couldn't stop it and it's ok. I'm glad we are back as best friends again. All through this, I hated it. I just wanted it to be over. One of us to win so we could go back to being the friends we were."
"Me too."
"Yeah, definitely. So I guess you might be stay in here with me. Will you stay with me? Through everything I mean?"
"Yep. I'm staying Sami. I'm not leaving. Never again. I'm staying with you. Budge up will you, I'm tired. I think we both need some sleep."
"Yeah we do. Thank you Adrian."
"No worries Sami."
"Love you."
"Love you too Sami."

Minutes later Enzo and Cass almost came stumbling through the doors but quickly quietened down when they saw the pair of friends sleeping soundly.
"Think we better go Enzo."
"Yeah, I think we should. How you doin?"
