They never tell you how to prepare for someone you love to pass on. They don't explain the pain you feel when you feel their last breath leave their body, but Chan had never believed this, he didn't understand why people got so sad when they heard stories about it. Why it was worth crying about.
Until one day everything had changed.
——
It was out of nowhere—They were watching a movie in their bed; peacefully laying in each others arms talking about their trip to Mexico when suddenly his breathing quickened, "C-Chan" he stammered out shaky. chan looked at him quickly, "i-i cant b-breath" chan jumped up, pulling him to the end of the bed, "baby, i need you to try and take a deep breath for me," the boy shook his head, "I-I cant, C-Chan" the boys eyes rolled to the back of his head before everything went completely dark. "Jisung!" Chan grabbed on to him. In a panic the older picked him up bridal and rushed towards the car—not even caring about shoes, his phone, or anything that he may need later. Only worried about getting the boy in his arms help.
——
He rushed—driving so fast that if anything were to happen he wouldn't have seen it coming, "come on baby, stay with me," in a matter of minutes the older made it to the hospital. Not even bothering to park in a spot, he jumped out of the car. Grabbing the boy laying in the passenger getting him inside, he looked around frantically, "help! Help! Please!" nurses rushed to him, taking the boy out of his arms placing him on a gurney."sir, we need you to stay back here, we'll come get you when we get him stable." Chan didn't bother to listen; all he could watch was the double doors swinging back and forth as they rushed to the back. He slid to the floor, his hands resting on his head as tears fell down his eyes. "Please...god please...."
---
A few hours later a nurse came back out, "sir?" Chan's head shot up before he quickly stood up, "is he okay? Where is he?" The nurse quieted the older down before speaking, "You can come back, but there's something you need to prepare for" Chan's eyes held confusion, but followed nonetheless. He was taken to a room, when he walked in his heart stopped; there he was—laying with wires hooked all over his small body. "Mr. Bang," chan turned to the voice, "oh..Doctor Kim. what happened? Why is he laying like this?" the doctor let out a soft sigh, "Mr. Bang. I'm sorry to say this, but he's gotten worse from the last couple of months. At this rate he has merely a couple hours to live." Chan's mind stopped, he couldn't process the words, he didn't want to. "N-no..you-you're lying.." the doctor shook her head, "i'm sorry Mr. Bang. we'll try and make him as comfortable as we can.." Chan didn't listen, he shook his head over and over again walking out of the room in tears
---
Chan walked back into the room after a couple of minutes, and found the doctor sitting next to jisung on the bed side holding his hand "I've called over 8 places, who said they might be able to get us in. All we have to do is go now." The older ranted out "Mr. Bang, you have to stop." The doctor replied softly, "or we could go to the airport, maybe they'll let us through. They'll do that for a sick patient right?" "Mr. Bang. you have to stop," "No, please don't tell me to stop. Don't ask me to do that." Chan cried out,"I don't want to stop either, but jisung is terminal Chan. In a couple of minutes his heart is going to stop." Chan's eyes watered, "the last person who would have touched him will either be me or a nurse," she spoke "Or it could be you. You don't want to miss this Chan. He needs you." At those words Jisung's voice rang through Chan's ears.
"C-channie a-are we going to Mexico like we said..?" Jisung's voice rasped out softly, the doctor moved away from him; letting Chan lay next to him. The older pulled him closer to his chest, rubbing his back softly, he replied "Yes..we're going to Mexico." It was quiet for a few seconds, all you could hear was jisung breathing slowly echo around the room "where the sky is "blue" blue..and the sand is white... the water's so clear you can see all the way to the bottom."
Chan's tears fell as he saw a smile appear on his face. "S-sounds so p-pretty.." he nodded "so pretty baby..We're going okay?...just you and me" he moved closer to chan "s-sounds p-perfect" Chan kissed his forehead "it is perfect baby. No more doctors, no more medicine...no more hospitals.." Chan stayed quiet for a couple of seconds tracing his face; taking in his features in his memory. "just you and me baby.."
It was quiet for a couple more minutes. Then Chan's world stopped when the sound of the monitor flattened. When he let out his last breath against him. Ringing filled his ears as a sob fell from his lips as He pulled him closer if that was even possible, "We're gonna go okay? Just relax, and we'll b-be there soon..." even with knowing he's gone, he knows he can still hear him. The doctor stood up from the chair and turned off the monitor before leaving the room, letting chan stay in the room with him for a while longer.
"We'll play at the beach like you wanted too...and we'll finally lay under the stars like we planned..." chan kissed his forehead. Leaving his lips there for a couple of seconds until another sob ripped through his body. This one is different from the others; The pain finally consumed him. He finally understood the pain that people were taking about. He realized that he couldn't live like this. Looking at jisung's face Chan's heart broke.
And soon enough. His heart stopped as well.
He had died from a broken heart.
