Sure, Let's Throw Nico Under The Bus

"Okay, fine. I'll explain why I killed that elf, but if I do, you can't arrest me immediately." I said, fully intending to lie my way out of this one. It was the next day. Everyone who had been here yesterday, interrogating me, was here again. I think some of them just want me to admit I'm guilty, especially that handsome teal eyed guy who has been staring at me with a murderous glint in his eye. "First off: I wasn't lying when I said it wasn't here to watch a show. If I hadn't shown up, there was no way you weren't going to be attacked. I'm pretty sure it was there because of me, actually, but whatever. Not the point." I said. They stared at me, watching me ramble. "I am, um... being chased, I guess." I said with hesitance. I knew this was not going to be believable, but it was the first thing I thought of. "Some people hate my family. We have a generations lasting feud. This is the elfin side, by the way." I clarify. Everyone but Nico, Sophie, Linh, and Tam seem to take a second to process my words. I guess they most not be very fluent in it. "This feud thing is incredibly bloody. That's why I have so much training, because otherwise, I would've died young. Like, at twelve or thirteen." They all wear surprised expressions after what I said sits in.

"So, yeah. I was already combat trained and had fought like five battles when the Neverseen came along. My family and the other family weren't in the elf world like at all because the elves disliked them because of their violence and the fact a lot of our families aren't fully elvin at all. There are a few branches that are completely elves and a few branches of the family that have so little elf blood that their powers are extremely weak. Doesn't matter to the other elf family though, they come after anyone with a little trace of our blood." I say, making most of up on the spot. I guessed most elves dislike violence by their reactions during their combat training, but I hope it would be enough to get people kicked out of the Lost Cities. They stare at me in disbelief.

"Anyways, so the Neverseen provided me a safe place to live since the human world was crawling with people apart of or allied with the people that want to kill me and the elven one didn't want me. I hated their tactics and wanted to leave, but couldn't. They threatened to kill my girlfriend and my cousin who was also in the organization." I smirked. "A cousin who is standing right next to you right now. Say hi, Enzo. Or, uh, should I say Nico." I said, almost laughing at the shocked look on his face. Hey, he practically brought me into this mess. Besides, it'll make me more believable if he backs me up. They trust him, after all. And I can't say it isn't funny when they all turn to him incredibly slowly, like this is a movie or something.

They start talking in rapid "enlightened language." While I'm picked up a few essential phrases (hello, goodbye, where's the bathroom, this is all your fault, do you have blue food coloring?) I don't understand a tenth of what they're saying. Nico seems to be defending himself, while the teal eyed one is clearly not very happy about this. They seem to come to an agreement though, because Sophie turns to look at me.

"If Enzo's not his real name, what's yours?" She says. I wince, because after that, even if I try and lie, Nico is going to tell them anyways. So I sigh and quietly mutter.

"Percy." Sophie narrows her eyes.

"Like the guy in Harry Potter?" She demands. I shrug.

"I've never read or even really watched Harry Potter, but I guess. My last name is Jackson, though." I made a mental note to rewatch the series when this all ends if I live to that point. If that point ever comes.

I block out that thought instantly.

"Why did you lie?" She asks. I shrug again.

"I didn't want them to track me down. Too late now, I guess." I said, then quickly added on, "Plus, I'm not exactly a known member of the Neverseen. When all this goes up in flames, like it's bound too, I don't want The Neverseen to know I was ever even kinda friends with you. That significantly lowers my survival chances." Sophie looks at me, taken aback.

"You think we're going to lose." She says, gasping at me in utter stock. I shrug.

"Trust me, I hate the Neverseen. Maybe not their mission, making the Lost Cities less corrupt and finally getting the humans in check so they don't destroy the whole world, but the people in it and their ways of trying to complete that mission? Not good. The ends never justify the means if the means is killing thousands and experimenting on innocent mortals." I shuddered. I've been guessing for most of this, piecing together the little pieces I know of the Neverseen from random conversations. I must've struck a nerve, though, because Sophie's shocked stare turned into something full of hatred. The others looked at me like that, once again, a second or two later.

"So you do believe in their ideals, like that humans should be put into sanctuaries?" She said, her tone hostile. I winced and shook my head.

"No, not that. Uh..." I stalled, trying to think of something to say. I'm not Annabeth or Piper, I'm horrible at finding out what people want to hear and what a good thing to say while being interrogated is. "I just kinda believe that elves being the leaders of the humans so they don't do anything stupid is better than letting humans run free and be idiots."  I'm just guessing at this point. Thankfully, Sophie doesn't look too offended at this.

"I'll tell that to the council. You're not actually aloud to attend the meeting where they make the decision about your fate due to the fact you lied to them last time." I protest for a second, but I see her face and sigh. I better hope Nico will come through for me again. Speaking of my cousin, he's still glaring at me.

"I'm going to sleep now. Please ask my cousin if you have any questions." I say. Sophie looks at Nico, like she forgot about that, and nodded.

"Sure. By the way, you never answered my question. You think the Neverseen will win." She says, more of a statement than anything.

"They are so much more put together and planned than you are. They might not have numbers, but they don't really need them. The amount of distrust and tension I've seen here is nothing like it is there. Everyone's dedicated to the cause, and everyone is ready to die for it. Are you?" She nods fiercely, and slowly everyone else does too, hesitantly. "I don't really believe you. You've been through horrible things for the Black Swan, and nothing has came out of it. You're restless. The Neverseen has patience you don't. And I'm not like someone good with strategy or anything but I'm pretty sure they have the advantage." Sophie looked so defeated I sighed and added. "But I've fought against worse odds. You can win this, if you're really smart about it. And that's where my knowledge ends. Now, I'm going to sleep. Good night, Sophie."

Sorry for not updating in so long, I've had no motivation. I'm actually going on vacation for a couple of days, so if I don't respond to you that's why. This was supposed to be part of a longer chapter but I don't have the time to finish writing that part so that's why it's completely filler. Sorry!

Question of the Chapter: What's the strangest thing in your refrigerator? Peoples answers to this are also so varied it's interesting.
