Chan stared at Felix skeptically as Jisung explained what went on in the temple. Felix held back a frustrated sigh as his wings flared with his slight fear.
Even if Felix had known Chan all his life, and once been great friends with him, the vampire was a little scary. His green eyes glared at Felix with contempt and almost hatred, and Felix couldn't stand it. The only thing that counteracted that slight fear was the fact that Chan's pitch-black hair was falling in his face and he wasn't even bothering to move it.
Chan was slightly taller than both Felix and Jisung, but shorter than Hyunjin. He had curly black hair that fell over his eyes a lot. His eyes were a shade of blue close to that of the ocean. He tended to wear black clothes, even when it was hot as hell outside.
"You understood both Ancient Astarian and Aetherian? How?" Chan questioned, sounding a little suspicious.
Felix shrugged. "I don't know. I just read it and understood it."
"Read this. Right now." Chan demanded, shoving a book into Felix's hands.
"M¯æst ûpcyme, ðrîe scînlâc ðôðer, mônaðlic m¯ægburg, hw¯æde, hwæðere bryne. In the beginning, there were three Magicfolk tribes, Lunar Creatures, Fae, and Nether-based. They lived in harmony until the humans attacked and desecrated three peaceful villages. From then on, a war broke out between the Magicfolk and humankind. That war is still going on, and the humans are forcing us to flee or die, so we must leave for our own safety. I can't bring my children with me, so I pray for their safety. I may never see them again.
"Yfell¯ætan lêt ðês bôc fullan mîn oððem¯æst wên ðe man canne be−frînan fornêah me nâðýl¯æs oncunnan micel yfel frêondlufu ðâs."
I leave behind this journal and all of my others in the hopes that they can learn about me and know how much I love them.
When Felix looked up from the book, Chan was looking at him with a blank expression.
"You can translate her journal." Chan said, his eyes narrowed.
Felix looked down at the book in his hand, the name Kalina Hawthorne scrawled in gold ink on the cover, and then back at Chan. "Do you want me to translate the whole thing?"
"I want it translated immediately by the next moon cycle." Chan demanded. Felix's eyes widened. He'd never be able to finish this on top of all the other tasks Chan had given him to be completed by the next moon cycle.
"Chan, don't be so cruel! Felix is already busy with the hundred other tasks you've given him!" Jisung cried.
Chan's glare hardened. "I do not care. You will translate the journal right now."
Felix just sighed, resigned to his fate. He met eyes with Jisung and Hyunjin, shaking his head when he saw their worried faces. Felix was already overworked enough as it was, but getting Chan to see reason was a fruitless endeavor.
Lately, Chan had been getting meaner and crueler. He'd always been slightly cruel, as it was in his nature as a vampire, but this was worse. Felix was the most affected by Chan's mood swings. The Sun Searchers' leader had been loading Felix with tasks and Felix was exhausted, but no one could disobey Chan, lest they incur his wrath.
