Buei! Buei!"

"Ah Ah! Mensono reti!"

The screams. Even from the roadside, she could hear her grandmother's voice. Adoley slowed her steps.

Supporting a bucket of water on her head with a hand and another holding a polythene of okra seeds, she wondered what could have caused her grandmother to be screaming that afternoon.

"Ah ADOLEY! This child of mine!"

Adoley stopped when she heard her name. Should she continue? She offloaded her bucket of water. What was making her grandmother scream her name again? She had already served her food. She had fed the poultry. She had grounded the corn at the mill. What had she forgotten to do?

She leaned on the mud wall just behind her hut, with hope to hear what had gone wrong!

Why did she feel there was some kind of trouble?

Araba appeared, clutching a bowl of kenkey in front of her protruded stomach. She helped herself to the floor behind the hut and began to gobble her fish. She shooed some chickens away.

Araba was an eight year old child of one of the tenants who rented one of Adoley's grandmothers huts. A child known to be a very stingy foodlum who always wanted space to eat alone; because she didn't want to share.

"Hey_" Adoley whispered to her.

"I won't give you!" Araba snorted with a frown.

"I'm not asking you to give me any of this" she paused, " listen I just need to know why my grandma is shouting my name" Adoley asked.

"_how do I know?" She looked at her.

"Hmm_"Adoley paused, "look tell me, and take these coins for abele from aunty ataa " she bribed in the twi dialect.

"She found a pack of medicinal cards from your pillow. She said you're a bad child!" Araba spilled, almost choking on the lump of kenkey.

"_a pack of medicinal cards?" Adoley thought.

Araba pulled out her arm and grabbed the coins from her palms.

Adoley bit her own thumb so hard trying to remember where she kept the after-morning pills Kwame gave her.

"Oh no!" She squealed in fright!

She dropped her polythene and fled!
