"Mommy." Elaine's bright blue eyes sparkled with tears as Rachel ran to her, purposefully pushing Beatrice away.

"Uh!" Beatrice scoffed, but Rachel wasn't focused on her. She was focused on her daughter as she brushed a ball of hair behind Elaine's ear. Rachel didn't care that her knees hurt from scraping the concrete beneath her, she hadn't seen Elaine in almost an entire year. Look where CPS had landed her. With their abusive grandmother.

"What the hell do you want, Beatrice?" Johnny spat, his lips curling in disgust at the simple sight of her. Beatrice was never fond of Johnny, and Johnny was never fond of Beatrice. The feeling was mutual and known. His heart broke seeing Elaine, he liked to call her his granddaughter even though they both knew she really wasn't.

"Why don't we go inside and talk?" Rachel slowly picked up Elaine, feeling her heart ache as she felt Elaine's rib cage predominately.

Beatrice, Johnny, Miguel, and Rachel holding Elaine walked inside of the Lawrence household. Elaine was unusually quiet, but Rachel understood why. Elaine shook uncontrollably as she buried her head into Rachel's neck whilst grabbing fistfuls of Rachel's hair.

"Rachel, Miguel." The two looked at Johnny, who nodded in the direction of Rachel's room. "Go, please." It was only then that Rachel saw the large orange envelope that Beatrice was holding. The two obeyed, Miguel closed the door behind them for Rachel as her hands were occupied.

"Who is that?" Miguel asked, he recognized Elaine but not the old ass lady that stood beside her.

"Beatrice. My grandma on my mom's side." Rachel pulled out the tote of Elaine's things, realizing that she didn't have any clothes that fit her anymore. Rachel knew that Elaine would be four now, which, she also knew, marked a large growth spurt for most kids. She scanned her closet for the most comfortable and smallest shirt she had. She grabbed a shirt of hers from fifth grade that was pink with unicorns, although it would still be a bit big on Elaine.

"What's she here for?" Miguel asked, seeing Rachel shrug.

"I don't know." She sighed, before turning around to face Miguel. "I'm gonna go give her a bath, can you turn on the TV and go to Disney Plus?" Miguel nodded before Rachel hurriedly left the room and closed the door behind her.

Rachel tried her best not to cry at how many bruises littered Elaine's body. She took pictures of them because she knew how shitty CPS was and that they needed evidence in order to do anything. She'd show them, and then she'd take Elaine back. That was her plan. Rachel had to brush out Elaine's matted hair which took about twenty minutes. It wouldn't have been as bad if Beatrice would've treated Elaine's hair with curly hair products that were made for Elaine's hair. Elaine got her curly hair from her biological mother, which Rachel's mother always told Rachel she was jealous of. Elaine cried a bit, from the pain of Rachel brushing out the tangled curls and from the physical and emotional pain she'd received from Beatrice that she was telling Rachel about.

Rachel returned to her room, with Elaine attached to her hip, Miguel frowned at the bruises that littered poor Elaine's face. Rachel had fixed herself up while she was in the bathroom with Elaine and answered any questions that Elaine had. Miguel sat up as Rachel sat Elaine beside him, he wasn't sure if Elaine remembered him and he didn't wanna freak Elaine out.

"Elaine, you remember Miguel, don't you?" Elaine nodded, her eyes sticking to Rachel's face. "That's him, right there." Rachel pointed at him, Elaine turning her head as she pointed. Her eyes grew slightly, and Miguel changed since she last saw him. He was taller and bigger, his hair was longer, and he no longer had braces. "Are you hungry?" Elaine nodded quickly. "I'll go find you something to eat, but can I leave you here with Miguel?" Elaine glanced at Miguel and then back at Rachel before she proceeded to slowly nod.
