Time marched on, ticking, never stopping.
Tick.
Tock.
Tick-
Then nothing. Nothing but the sound of soft breathing.
No notice was paid to the silence of the clicks. Brown eyes to silver, the tension in the room could perhaps be considered suffocating.

Deadly.
But was a move made? Hardly even the rise and fall of the two chests. Like statues they sat, only staring at one another.
Then, a crack of a smile. The silver-eyed female slowly reached out and placed her delicate fingers on one of the cards before her. She slid it back before pulling it off the table. Her movements were slow, steady, and ever so careful.
Only looking at the card for a second, she giggled quietly before flipping it around to show the other. "King of Hearts." A voice almost robotic, monotone, stoic, but somehow revealed her playful tone at that moment.
The other woman blinked and dropped her gaze to the card. Card after card, lined up perfectly, waiting for her. "I know what you're playing." She muttered before reaching for one. Hooking one of her long nails under the card, she flipped it over without removing it from her desk.
"Two of Spades. What a shame."
In response to the smug words of the girl, the brown-eyed woman clicked her tongue and leaned back in her chair. "Enough of this." Voice stern but leaking with... Fear, perhaps?
"Ayano Aishi... I know who you are."
The girl, Ayano, acted as though she hadn't heard, her fingers tracing over the cards. "Who am I?" She muttered after a moment.
"You're a danger."
A sigh escaped Ayano's lips at the answer. "No, no, dear Genka Kunahito-"
The woman almost jumped at her full name being used by a student, and one such as Ayano, but quickly held herself back.
"That's what I am. But who am I?" Her steady hand picked up another card which she showed Genka with a pleased smile. "Oh, I'm so lucky. Queen of Spades. Two for two." Ayano set the card down on the table then placed the king beside it. "The Queen of Spades and King of Hearts, they can't possibly go together, can they?"
The woman remained silent.
Ayano took another card and showed a Queen of Hearts. "Because the heart king belongs to the heart queen, right? That seems so unfair. Maybe if this little queen..." She suddenly tore the card in half, the sound of shredding echoed around the room before she simply dropped both sides. "... weren't around anymore, the king would want a new queen."
"The Queen of Spades." Genka raised an eyebrow, arms crossed. "And you think you're going to be the queen? I'll stop you before you harm a single-"
The silver-eyed girl quickly rose from her seat and turned her back to the counselor. "Please, I'm not a monster. I'll do what needs to be done. You care so much about your precious students, what if I make friends?"
"What are you scheming?" Genka pulled herself to a stand, suddenly feeling threatened. There was a pause between the two females before Ayano sighed with irritation. "You still don't get it? I'll control the students by becoming close to them. Nobody will be hurt. Does that sound like a deal?"
"Your words whisper death. You can't hide your nature. I've heard about your parents, what your mother was. You'll kill someone if you have to." The sounds of heels tapped against the ground before falling silent over the rug in the room. Ayano could feel the presence right behind her but she didn't intend to be intimidated. The girl held her hands in front of her chest and turned her eyes to the ground. "Did you like my little game?"
No reply from the counselor known as Genka.
Ayano didn't care though, she had a purpose of being here and she would say what she came to say. "People cheat at poker, you know. Sometimes you can tell the difference between a cheater and someone with a full house with body language. It's a shame we weren't playing poker but I won't lie to you." The girl turned around and locked eyes with Genka. "You had no idea I was cheating, did you? Don't I have such a good poker face?" From her sleeves, Ayano slipped out three cards, though one of which had a black coating to it. The girl separated the odd one out into her other hand and turned the two cards to show the older woman the King of Spades and an Ace.
She cared little for the secret and instead turned to the black card. "And what it that?"
A smirk, and dropping the cards, Ayano handed it out. "A tarot card. They usually tell the future, right? I think this one is fitting."
After Genka accepted the card, Ayano turned and exit the room slowly, waving her hips and closing the door as she left. The door clicked behind her, softly, almost unheard. Genka sighed and returned to her desk where the cards had been left behind but she cared little for the mess. "Coming into my office and..." She shook her head and stopped herself. It wasn't time to get worked up. Ayano had entered her office, challenge her to a pointless game of picking up cards, well, perhaps it meant something to Ayano herself but Genka didn't understand it. Her mind felt exhausted of all the thinking, she couldn't wrap her head around that girl. With a heavy sigh, she looked down at the tarot card, engraved with a skull and the large words of "DEATH". Her hands shook before dropping the card, allowing it to flutter to the ground.
Silent.
Until the clock began to tick once more.
