"I'm now at the road along the mall by the bay in the south city and am on the way to the east. The car that is following behind me is pale yellow in color, and it looks old. Its car plate and windows were covered so I couldn't see their faces clearly. However, it looks like there are about five people. I don't know if they are armed. But, all I know is they are trying to hit us hard judging from the situation just now."
The car shook violently once again as Jennie was talking to her phone.
The car lurched sideways abruptly, and a terrifying screeching sound was heard.
When Xiao Jingyao heard this, his heart thumped. He shouted over the phone, "General Manager, what's going on?! Answer me! Answer me!"
Jennie regained her balance with much difficulty. She heard a loud voice coming out from her cell phone, "I'm fine. We got hit again. The car has been damaged and can't move well."
Xiao Jingyao heaved a sigh of relief on his end. Then, he said in a low voice, "I'll send help over to you right now. Since those people want to run you off the road, ask the driver to drive to the highway by the bay. Then, find the right time to get off and hide yourself to delay them. Those people are most likely armed with guns. You have to protect yourself. Remember, try your best to stall for time and keep in touch with me as well. I'll send help over to you right away."
"Alright, noted," Jennie hung up. She turned back and saw the car that had been following her was approaching closer to them. She closed her eyes, and she said in a low voice, "Uncle, drive to the highway by the bay."
"Eldest lady, there's usually not many people along that highway. What happens if..."
"There might not be anyone there, but there's the sea!" Before the driver finished speaking, Jennie immediately interrupted him.
The driver froze, "Eldest lady, you mean..."
Jennie pursed her lips, and she heaved a sigh, "If that really happens, we have no choice but to brave it out."
The driver did not say anything. He pressed on the accelerator like there was no tomorrow, and the car sped toward the highway.
After explaining herself to the driver, Jennie turned back and looked at Shin-hye apologetically, "Aunt, I'm afraid that I've dragged you down this time, and we have to flee together."
"Oh, okay!" Shin-hye was stunned after watching Jennie talking to the phone so calmly and returning to her seat right after explaining to the driver. There was not even the slightest bit of urgency in the matter of life-or-death situation from her calm look.
'What's wrong with this girl? She's... going against the grain with everything she did!"
Shin-hye came from a great family. Even though she had experienced numerous kidnappings for ransom, ruthless frame-ups for the rich men's daughters, and she was also the madam of a great family, she could not help but get worked up and trembled over such encounters, much less a lass who lacked this kind of exposure.
Most people, especially the ladies would have had their faces turn ghastly pale and let out a hysterical scream when they experienced events like this, right?
But, was this child not wearing any emotion on her sleeve even when a mountain were to fall on her, just like her stoic son? Or, could this girl have had a few screws loose in her head, and she was simply a daredevil?
Regardless, Jennie was actually very nervous beneath her calm appearance. The reason why she looked so calm was because she knew it was pointless to get worked up at that moment. If she did and lost her cool, their lives would be put at stake!
After so many years staying in the special police force, Jennie was used to wandering on the edge of death for each mission that she had undertaken. Even though she was not getting used to these circumstances, she could at least maintain her sanity when confronting sudden events due to her prior experiences.
Therefore, unlike what Shin-hye had thought that she had a few screws loose in her head, in fact, she could think very fast, faster than ever before.
As the driver had mentioned, there was hardly anybody spotted by the bay. However, it was by the sea, and a dense wood by the road. If they could swiftly move and hide in the woods to stall for time, and that should help. However, not everything in this world went according to one's wish.
Perhaps, this was the driver's first time experiencing an event like this, or perhaps, his nerves got the better of him. This time, the driver, who had consistently been driving steadily, did not pay attention to the front because he had been distracted by the car following behind them. As a result, he literally jumped when he saw a car abruptly appear from a corner, and he quickly turned the steering wheel to the side.
The car went off the road. The driver lost control, and it crashed into the woods.
Jennie heard an ear-splitting sound of car tires rubbing against the ground and the next moment, the car seemed like it flew up and crashed landing into the woods.
The sound of rustling of branches scratching against the car, grunting sound of wind as well as the panicking cries of the passengers inside the car rang out.
Jennie saw a flash of light across her eyes. Amidst the woods accompanied by a dull thud, a figure lunged at her as swift as lightning. The next moment, Jennie felt her head spinning, and her mind went blank.
Without knowing how long it took, by the time Jennie opened her eyes, she felt a weight on her body, as if something had pressed against her. What came after was the sound of painful groans.
Her memory came back in a flash. Jennie's entire body shuddered. She widened her eyes when she saw Shin-hye pressed on top of her body, "Madam Manoban..."
At that moment, Shin-hye regained her consciousness. She touched her head after suffering from the bump, and she groggily straightened up.
There was a cut on Shin-hye's forehead as a result of the car crash. Blood was streaming from her forehead and went along the corner of her eyes. The entire scene was a little frightening.
Jennie's expression changed. She crawled out from the deformed car in a flurry of motion. Then, she reached out to Shin-hye's head.
Thankfully, it was not a very deep cut, and it had not reached the artery. It just looked a bit scary.
Jennie heaved a sigh of relief. Then, she looked at Shin-hye's other body parts. Apart from some minor injuries on her arms, she was not badly wounded.
"Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere on your body? Do you feel dizzy? Where are you hurt?"
Shin-hye touched her dizzy head. When she heard Jennie's anxious questions, she answered truthfully, "Nothing, just a little dizzy."
"Is it a headache? Could it be a concussion? Does it make you feel like throwing up?" Jennie grew increasingly nervous right after hearing Shin-hye's replies.
"I don't think so. I think I feel dizzy because I struck it hard just now. I'll be fine after taking a break." The next moment, Shin-hye seemed like she thought of something. She abruptly looked up, and she asked, "How about you? Are you hurt?"
Jennie froze. The way she looked at Shin-hye grew increasingly complicated. She bit her lips tightly. It took her a long while before she said with some difficulty, "I'm fine. Madam Manoban, I wonder why..."
