With a few heavy steps the man let out an exasperated sigh, the bag slung over his shoulder had begun feeling heavier and heavier each second as did the overall motion of walking in his opinion.

His throat felt dry from the journey, the deserts landscape practically sapping any possible moister that might've been in the air.

Continuing to walk aimlessly his eyes scanned the horizon through peach coloured lenses, his focus falling upon the dimming lights of what appeared to have been a town. Its buildings were scattered around from what he could tell however they became denser towards the metal tower that sat in the middle, something that almost resembled a lighthouse if not for the rusted and decaying metal around the top.

It's seen better days- that's for sure.

Beginning to trek faster towards the town he set his sights on a small dinner, the front of which appeared to have been worn down over time, muting the presumably once neon paint.

Pushing the establishment's doors open he trailed towards one of the tables, an older woman right away came to greet him. "Hello there, can I get you anything."

"Something to drink if you can."

Nodding her head she disappeared quickly coming back right after with a glass half filled with water. Her lips pulled into a sheepish smile at the sight, quickly opening her mouth to explain. "Apologies for the amount. We're a little tight on clean water since the incident."

Quirking a brow at the woman's words the man let out a hum, hand tapping the side of the glass in thought before inquiring about what the woman had said. "Incident?"

Folding her hands in front she nodded her head solemnly. "Yes, not too long ago the plant that used to provide for our town was stolen. We tried our best to fight back but it only ended in many injured."

His lips sealed themselves into a line at her explanation, his jaw clenching momentarily.

"But it's all under control, we have someone willing to help which is wonderful."

Nodding along to what she'd been saying he rose up from the seat he'd taken, hand pressing the glass back towards the woman urging her to take it back. "If you don't mind I'd like to help as well."

Her eyes lit up at this, mouth failing to form words till they eventually fell out. "Are you sure? I mean you're just passing throu-"

"It's not an issue. I don't mind helping others." Quickly cutting off what she was about to say he flashed her a comforting smile, eyes gleaming with sincerity.

"Now, can you point to me where the plant was kept?"

-

Wires, tubes, and rusted metal boxes met your view, all of which were scarcely illuminated by the flashlight clenched between your teeth all the while your fingers fiddled with a few of the components.

Nimble fingers unscrewed a few things before beginning to pull apart two sections, a rubber seal being broken in the process causing some remaining condensation to rain down on you. Flinching at the rotten-scented water your forehead smacked against the small space above, a clang sounding followed by a loud groan.

"Are you alright?" Flinching once more at the sudden call your forehead once again banged into a pipe, your legs folding quickly after to pull your body out from the crawlspace all the while rubbing the skin of your face.

Using your free hand to take the flashlight out of your mouth your eyes fell on a pair of brown boots followed by black pants and the edges of a long red jacket. Rubbing your face some more you briefly took in the appearance of the person who'd come in; blond hair and a brown undercut was what you noted along with a pair of peach-coloured glasses and light blue eyes.

Quite the outfit you will admit, however, what really caught your focus was the shiny aqua-blue prosthetic making up the entirety of his left arm

"Yeah, I'm good. Didn't expect anyone to drop in anytime soon, however, so you gave me a little bit of a scare." Reaching to the side and pulling a towel out from a toolbox you'd been given, you patted it against your face, lips pursing together. "Is there something you need?"

Noting that he hadn't mentioned the reason for dropping in he let out a soft sheepish laugh, "Ah well I was passing through then heard about what happened here and wanted to help."

Nodding your head along to what he was saying you took a minute to respond back, eyes practically staring into his soul as if trying to read his mind and see if there was any ill will behind his response.

"You're a pretty lanky guy, can you fight?" Folding your legs in a bit and resting your arms on them you stared up at the stranger.

"I'd prefer not to but I can hold my own."

"What about the gun, how's your aim?"

"I'd like to say good but I don't use it often," A sheepish smile crept across his expression as his prosthetic hand went to rub the back of his neck. "Bullets are expensive."

Processing his response once again you moved to push off the ground standing up, expression unreadable until a smile cracked across your lips. "They really are- you could buy lunch with that amount."

His face broke out into a smile that practically rivaled your own, the atmosphere growing light almost instantly.

"(Y/N) is the name." Offering out a hand you watched him accept it almost excitedly, the man's energy practically the equivalent of a golden retriever.

"Vash." Nodding along to the introduction you pulled your hand back afterward, hands coming to rest against your hip as you returned towards the task you'd been doing before.

Watching as you'd kneeled before what he'd assumed to have been a toolkit he took the time to survey the room. A sizeable missing cylinder could clearly be made out, the spot that the plant had originally rested in before getting stolen.

"Do you have any idea how something so big was able to get stolen?" Calling out his gaze trailed back towards where you were, the place you'd crawled into what he now knew was the plant's base platform.

A few thumps sounded from where you were until a response was given, "My guess was cutting a hole in the structure, if you look at the walls you'll notice they were welded back together." doing a few more things underneath the platform your hand stuck outside the hole. "Hey, can you hand me the brick thingy that's right beside the toolbox?"

Right away stepping back over he moved towards the toolbox spotting a white coloured brick resting beside it, the texture of it seemed chalky and less brick-like than an actual brick. "Here." passing it into your opened hand he stood there for a minute, mouth opening to voice his curiosity. "What is it?"

Humming you placed the white brick into the box you'd popped the lid off to, some more water splashing onto you once more as you fixed the lid back on. "It's a filter I made that has protein in it. I think that when we get the plant back that it'll live longer and healthier with it."

At the explanation, his lips couldn't help but curl into a smile, heartwarming slightly at what you'd said.
