Everything was happening in slow motion. People were trying to get Y/N free from the wreck as the flames grew. Everyone was silent. Watching impatiently for any sign that Y/N was going to be ok.
"Please." Lizzie whispered as tears fell freely. She hugged their jacket close to her. Jeremy was fighting with the officials to try and get to the wreck. Wanting to make sure that his sibling was still alive. All of them hating this suspense.
The news plagued News Stations all over the country.
"Famous NASCAR driver Y/N Renner had an unfortunate incident in todays race. There is still a team trying to get them from the wreckage right now. We won't know more until members of their family feel comfortable enough to reveal their condition."
As soon as they were able to cut them free from their seatbelt. Slowly dragging a limp Y/N from the flames. Most of their suit was melting in the flames.
As soon as they were in the ambulance, the Crew Cheif informed Jeremy where they were heading. The four of them left hastily to Y/N's car. Lizzie tried to unlock it before Scarlett took the keys from her.
"I'll drive." She told her. Lizzie got in the passenger seat as Jeremy and Hailee were in the back. The drive was silent. Not even the radio was turned on. Not wanting to hear about the accident they have just witnessed.
As soon as they all arrived at the hospital, they were led to a relatives room. Lizzie sat with her head in her hands as Scarlett rubbed her hand up and down her back soothingly. Jeremy was pacing the room as Hailee sat on her own.
As the hours went by and no news. The four were surprised to see Chris Evans walk in the room with coffees and sandwiches.
"Anything yet?" He asked them as Jeremy shook his head.
"It's been hours. Why could they be taking this long." He said as he finally took a seat.
"They were in surgery. Surgeries can take a while." Scarlett spoke softly as he scoffed.
"They usually take a long time if there are complications." He said as he put his head in his hands. "I can't lose them. I won't." He said as he stood up and made his way out of the room in search of answers.
Lizzie turned her attention to Hailee who remained quiet with a guilty expression on her face. Sitting forwards before she spoke for the first time since entering the hospital.
"Why couldn't you wait until after the race to talk to them." Lizzie spoke angrily. "Your so called apology made them crash. Your apology might have just killed them."
"Don't you mean killed your chance with them." Hailee spat back
"I don't care about that Hailee. When are you going to grow up." Lizzie told her. "They are my best friend. You have no idea how they have helped me. All I want is for them to be ok. To be alive. I don't care if they never share my feelings. I don't. I just want my best friend back." Lizzie soon broke down as Scarlett was quick to wrap her arms around her.
"I think you should leave." Jeremy told Hailee as he walked back in the room.
"What?" Hailee whispered as she looked up at him.
"Leave. I don't know what your conversation with Y/N was about but it was the reason they weren't 100% on their game." He told her as she looked at him. "I will inform you of their condition but please leave."
"Ok." Hailee whispered. Everyone watched in silence as she left.
"How are they?" Scarlett asked him as they all looked up at him.
"Still im surgery." He said as he sat down. "I can't lose them. I don't know what I would do without their annoying ass in my life."
"They will make it." Lizzie said with hopeful eyes. "They have to."
As the hours went by and no word on Y/N. The room filled up with more friends and family all of them have flew in just to be near them.
"I remember the first time they knew what they wanted to do." Jeremy smiled as he spoke. "They hotwired dad's old Charger. They must have been about 15 or 16. Dad knew it was them but still rang the police and reported it stolen. Seeing Y/N's face as they were being walked up the steps to our home in handcuffs was truly something. Dad expected them to apologise for being wreckless but instead they told him the car needed more power. Maybe a new exhaust manifold too. Dad clipped them up the side off the head as mum and me just laughed at them."
Everyone laughed at the story, not noticing the doctor walk in the room.
"Mr Renner?" The doctor questioned. Causing everyone's attention to fall on him.
"How are they?" He asked them as they sighed.
"We had numerous complications in surgery. They had suffered an acute puncture of the lung. Caused by the impact. They have numerous 3rd degree burns around the face, the neck and the chest area. Also a few broken ribs and a major concussion. So they are currently in an induced coma so we can keep an eye on their stats and treat the burns." They told them.
"Can we see them?" He asked the doctor as they smiled.
"Just two at a time for now." The doctor said as Jeremy pulled Lizzie with him. The two followed the doctor towards the ICU. Opening the door to a private room. Lizzie gasped when she saw Y/N covered in gauze. A tube down their throat helping them breath. They were unrecognisable.
"Y/N." Lizzie whispered as she took one of their hands in her own before gazing at them. "Please be ok. We need you to be ok. I need you." She whispered as she sat down as Jeremy sat opposite her. The two sat in silence listening to the machines letting them know that they are still alive. For now.
