Prologue

Jett's POV:

"Mom, what's happening?" I shakily asked my mom as she bundled my sister and I into the back of dad's work van.

"It's for your own safety" she told me before slamming the door shut, plunging Indigo and I into darkness, left only with the sounds of my parents conversing and the ever changing noises of the traffic outside.

"Jett, where are we going?" Indigo whimpered as she huddled into my side.

"I don't know Indi, I'm sorry" I replied, feeling just as scared as her but I couldn't show it, I had to protect her, she's only 5.

"Get off of me!" I yelled as a man in a black suit with a helmet on grabbed my arm.

I tried as hard as I could to get away but I was only 9, there was no way I could overpower him.

All I could think now was Indigo. Keep Indigo safe.

Indigo's POV:

We've been in this place for 5 years now. Jett's done his best to look after me but the men are strong and they outnumber us massively.

I overheard some people saying that today's the big day or something, I don't know what they're talking about but for the past few years they've been doing lots of testing on Jett and I.

They've also forced us to keep up with our fitness but I don't know what they're training us to be.

"Indi, what are you doing?" Jett asked as he wandered around into my half of the room.

"I'm listening to what they're saying" I told him.

"Don't put yourself through it-" Jett began when we heard a key slide into our locked door. I immediately jumped down from the windowsill and sat on the edge of my bed.

"Come on kids, it's time for more testing" the man said to us as he cocked his head for us to follow him.

I walked behind Jett as we made our way down to the lab. Even though we'd been down here everyday, it never got less frightening. I hate when they stick needles in me and make me do things.

"Indi, wake up!" I felt my body shaking as my eyes fluttered open to see Jett stood over me.

"What are you doing?" I murmured as I tried to sit up.

"Indi, they left our door unlocked, we can get out now" Jett spoke fast and pointed at the door which was indeed open ajar.

"Jett, even if we get through that door there'll be guards on the other side" I reminded him.

"Indigo, do you not remember what happened yesterday morning?" Jett stood back looking confused.

I slowly sat up, shaking my head, I'd been asleep since yesterday morning?

"Indi, we have powers now, and we can use them to fight the guards and get out of here" Jett told me.

We had powers? I didn't feel any different though. I suppose it makes sense for all the testing and training they've been making us do.

"Come on, we need to go now!" Jett whisper-shouted.

"Okay, okay sorry" I replied before putting my shoes on and following Jett out of our room.

We crept down the hallway, somehow not bumping into any guards. Surely there's something going on, our door was unlocked and there's no one guarding this hallway?

I shrugged it off as it was benefitting us and kept up with Jett as we crept down more hallways, making our way closer and closer to the outside.

We both had no idea where the proper exit was but we've trained outside before so we know how to get out there and hopefully can escape that way.

I suddenly heard shouting and glanced behind to see the guards chasing after us.

"Jett, they're chasing us!" I yelled to my brother.

"Indi, run!" Jett yelled as he suddenly broke into extreme speed.

I was confused for a moment then realised I needed to do the same, all of a sudden my legs were carrying me at speeds faster than I'd ever known.

"Grab my hand" Jett held his hand out once we got to the fence.

I immediately grabbed his hand before he held me against his body and jumped us both over the fence.

"We're out" I said in disbelief as our feet hit the ground the other side.

"Yeah, but we need to stay out, now let's go" Jett said as he turned around. I followed him as we ran to the nearest town.

We realised we didn't have money or anything but all we knew was that we needed to get away. Far far away.
