Rose-Coloured Glasses
I opened my eyes and looked around. I was in a small, dark room. I felt down my body and I was only wearing a pair of panties and an over-sized t-shirt. I started to panic. Where am I? I looked to my right and saw a slither of light. I crawled towards it.
I felt up against, what I thought to be a wall, until I felt a door hinge. I kept sliding my hand up and down searching for the knob. Just when I thought I found it, the door flew open, causing me to stumble back. In the door frame stood a large black figure.
"You're awake". I gasped as he flicked on the light.
"Jacob?" I questioned. A smirk tugged at the corners of his mouth.
"The one and only", he let out a slight chuckle. He reached towards me and grabbed my hand, but I jerked it away.
The expression on his face turned ice cold. He yanked me by my hair out of the room and threw me on the floor. "Ungrateful", he roared. He then went on to ramble on and on about, how he takes me on vacation and I don't do a thing but stay in the lodge, all day. The sharp sounds of his voice penetrated every inch of my body like little knives, searching for essential organs.
I was confused and scared, but I played along because I knew something much more fatal than his words would come if I didn't. I slowly rose from the floor. Never breaking my gaze from Jacob's. I took his hand in mine.
"Jac- baby? I'm sorry." He looked up at me, with sincere eyes and his face softened. He stared deep into my eyes and apologized for lashing out on me on our honeymoon? He told me that he bought me a present. He stood and went to the other room. As soon as he was out of sight I darted towards the door. I pushed and pulled but the door wouldn't budge. I looked over in the direction Jacob went in. How am I going to escape?
I quickly tiptoed over to the window. I looked out and saw that snow was coming down hard. What I'm assuming to be a cabin, was isolated in the woods. I scanned the room and spotted a phone. I hurried and dialed 911.
"911. What's your emergency?"
"My name is Rose Bell. I've been kidnapped and I don't know where I am. I'm in a cabin. It's surrounded by trees and it's snowing outside."
I let out a gasp of air. The lady on the other line told me to stay calm.
"Ma'am please stay calm. We are currently pinpointing your location. We'll dispatc- " Was all I heard before the line went dead.
I looked up and saw Jacob holding the phone cord. He had a dozen white rose in one hand and look that told me he was hurt. And soon I would be too.
Jacob's face remained emotionless. He dropped the roses and the phone cord. He kept staring at me. "You don't love me, do you?"
I didn't know what to do. His voice was shaky, like he was about to cry. I opened my mouth to answer, only to be silenced by Jacob violently grabbing by my neck, and dragging me back into the room I woke up in.
I laid on the cold concrete floor, my whole body numb from Jacob's wrath. I picked myself up. I searched for a light switch. I ran my fingers along the wall, careful not to run into anything. When I found the light switch I quickly regretted it . My attention was immediately captured by the photos on the wall.
They were all of...me? Me sleeping, me eating, at school. You name it. My fingers unintentionally traced the photos on the wall.
Suddenly, I heard the closet door creak open. In hopes of being rescued, I ran to it, right into Jacob's arms. "So, you I take it you forgive me?" He let out a chuckle. I quickly pulled away from his embrace. To my surprise he didn't get upset. He walked right past me and to one of the four walls covered with photographs. He stared at them for a short moment.
