Update:
It's been 2 years since the whole ordeal with Esperanza happened. I'm currently in my second year of college and I'm studying to become a social worker and a therapist. I want to help kids that are like me. I want to show them that there's still hope, that they can still make it. Because I made it.I haven't had any contact with Esperanza since she told me she loved herself and her drugs more than me. Jessa and I moved out and got an apartment together, five minutes away from Kate. I'm currently working at a place called Ladders for Leaders where we help kids that were born to drug addicted parents or abusive parents get past their issues. I serve as a role model for many, according to my boss.

"Jessa I'm home." I say, putting my bag and keys down on the table. "Hey I'm in here" she replies. I throw myself on the couch and call to order pizza. "Want anything from the pizza place?" I call from the couch. "No just plain pizza" she yells back. I pick up the phone and put the order in. A few minutes later, my phone rings. It's a private caller. Worried that it might be Esperanza calling from prison, I call Jessa to come in. She sits next to me and I pick up the phone. "Hello?" I ask nervously. "Hi, is this Chelsea Manarico?" A man with a deep voice asks. "Uh yes, this is she." I reply. My hands are shaking. "Hi, I'm Phillip Scott, from the Atlanta Federal Prison. I'm calling about Esperanza Guadalupe Rodriguez. Do you know her?" He asks. "Yes I do, she's my mother." I say, holding back my tears. "I'm so sorry to tell you. But she committed suicide earlier today." He says sadly. I'm quiet for a minute, in shock from what I just heard. "My mother. Committed suicide?" I ask to clarify. I see Jessa's hand go up and cover her mouth. "Yes. Just this morning she hung herself. I'm so sorry." He replies. I'm not sure whether or not I should be sad, but I'm not. I'm free. I'm finally free of the torment and constant worrying. She's dead. I don't have to run anymore.
