The mission

"I wonder why Julius summoned me?" Yami mused to himself, his brow furrowing in curiosity as his hand absentmindedly scratched his neck, the glowing ember of his cigarette casting a faint trail of smoke. With a purposeful stride, he made his way toward the meeting room, the anticipation building within him. As he entered the room, his eyes immediately fell upon Charlotte, who stood by the wall, her gaze fixed on some distant point. Yami approached her, his presence catching her off guard. Startled, she turned to face him, her eyes widening in surprise. "You know what this is about?" he asked, his voice laced with a hint of intrigue.

Charlotte, her voice trembling slightly, replied, "Y-Y-Yami? I'm not sure either, but I think it has something to do with a monster." Her words stumbled out, punctuated by nervous pauses. Yami couldn't resist a teasing chuckle, thoroughly enjoying her momentary vulnerability. "Huh. Even the prickly princess stutters. Wow, what a rare view," he quipped, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Charlotte's cheeks flushed a deep shade of pink, a mix of embarrassment and exasperation.

Their lighthearted banter was abruptly interrupted as the door swung open, revealing Julius, the squad leader. His presence commanded attention, and the room fell silent. "Good morning! Sorry I'm late... Is everything okay?" Julius greeted them, his tone filled with genuine concern.Charlotte, quickly regaining her composure, replied with a sense of seriousness, "Y-Yes, everything is fine. Well anyways, why did you summon us?" Her voice held a tinge of curiosity and a touch of apprehension.Julius, his expression shifting to a more solemn demeanor, explained the purpose of their summons. "Well, you see... there's a monster wreaking havoc somewhere in the common realm. We're uncertain of its exact location, which is why we've decided to entrust both of you, as squad captains, with the task of locating and eliminating the creature," he revealed, his gaze alternating between Yami and Charlotte.

The weight of the responsibility settled upon them as they absorbed the magnitude of the mission. Charlotte nodded, her determination shining through her eyes. "This is going to be a lot more work since we don't know where it is, right, prickly princess?" Yami chimed in, his voice laced with a mix of mischief and confidence. Charlotte nodded in agreement, her gaze unwavering.

A wave of worry washed over Charlotte as she voiced her concern, "Wait, since we don't know exactly where this monster is, are we going to be sleeping outside?" Her voice trembled slightly, betraying her unease.Julius, ever the calm and composed leader, offered reassurance. "Well, I'm glad you've asked, Charlotte. We have managed to secure a secluded lake house in the heart of the common realm, exclusively for the two of you. It's where the monster was last sighted," he disclosed, a warm smile gracing his face.

Yami's curiosity was piqued even further. The prospect of embarking on this challenging mission, coupled with the intrigue surrounding the mysterious monster and their secluded base, ignited a fire within him. With a determined glint in his eyes, he turned to Charlotte. "Looks like we've got ourselves an adventure, princess." Charlotte's gaze met his, her initial apprehension giving way to a spark of excitement.

Little did they know, their journey would test their skills, unravel secrets, and forge an unbreakable bond between two souls destined to confront the darkness lurking in the common realm.
