Since Evans didn't send any news yet, Artica had decided to plant the seed that Brigid gifted her, out in the backyard behind the house. The younger lass dug a hole in the ground, put the seed inside, covered it and then called over her cousin.

"You do it, I don't have bollocks."

"You know it's a needle, right?"

"Yes. And it's better you do it, and don't tell me- OUCH!" Too late, Safie had already pricked her finger with said needle so that she could squeeze a few crimson droplets out. They fell on the little dome of dirt where she had buried the seed.
They only had to wait for it to sprout, one night, according to Brigid's instructions. And, just as the maiden Queen said, the next day a bright white flower with red streaks had sprouted in place of the seed, a strange flower that resembled a lily but not quite.

"Gigi, come here..."

The Faerie called over the little goat, which sniffed the flower with interest and eyed her with its big eyes.

"I feed you my blood, I let me into your mind, body and soul. For you chose me, and I choose you. Familiar, guardian, friend"

Gigi blinked, then started eating the plant to the roots and not leaving anything of it, then he just hopped on her lap and sat down, curling up.

"Did it work?" asked Safie

"I don't know..."

"What did work?"

...

Artica heard a childish voice in her head, it could belong to a ten-year-old or so. It wasn't a child of the town, she knew them all and nobody had this voice.

"... Gigi?"

She pointed at the little lamb, which was looking up at both of them, eyes wide. For Safie, he bleated, but for Artica, the bleating turned automatically into that innocent little voice in her head.
The thin layer of fur on her blue wings slowly puffed up and her antennas ruffled, a big smile with a hint of tears spread on her freckled face. It was happening... Not only she had always felt a mutual connection with this little one, but now she could understand him, literally.

"Artica, since when can you speak like a goat?"

"It's you speaking in my head!" The redhead picked her little friend up and happily jumped in the place, giggling with excitement. It had worked! They were officially bonded together now, for life.

"Remember when I called you my Familiar? Since you chose me and all... Well, it's official!"

"Does this mean I can help you fighting the bad people?"

Maybe not that, she had to learn something more about what this meant. For sure he would protect the house somehow, and could hear her thoughts from miles and miles away. This way he could reassure her family that everything would be all right and she was healthy, they'd find a way to understand each other even through animal-human language barrier.

"I always knew ye were a special wee laddie!"

Safie gave him scritches under the chin and he bleated back, Artica translated it to her cousin as a thanking and that he always wanted to tell her he loves the apple peels and if she had some because the flower had a slight bitterness and he needed something sweet.

"On it, laddie"

She needed to get more information about what Familiars could do. Things that the Banshee gladly explained while giving the lamb plenty of cuddles and snacks.

"A Familiar will be linked to your mind as long as the magic is strong"

"You can be miles away, and he will hear your thoughts"
