Gaz sat at the table, glancing at the door every time it opened only to be disappointed every single time. He sent his supposed date three messages but had yet to receive a reply, he decided if they didn’t show up within the next five minutes then he was leaving. Five minutes passed and there was no sign of his date so with a sigh he went to pay for the wine he had while he’d been waiting then decided to head back to base for the night. When he returned, he heard laughter and commotion in the common room but just trudged on to his room and collapsed on his bed not wanting to explain how he’d been stood up once again. When he woke the following morning there was a message from his ditched date last night and he was apologizing.
Hey I am so sorry my sister was in the hospital the entire night and my phone died so I wasn’t able to message you can we try this again I understand if the answer is no.
Gaz stared at his phone, trying to debate the pros and cons of accepting the offer, but it was a reasonable excuse after all so he sent a simple.
I get off at 6 if you wanna meet up at 8, same place as last night.
He set his phone to the side, deciding to start his morning routine forgoing a shower wanting to do that later before the date so he didn’t show up smelling sweaty and gross from training all day, with a sigh he grabbed his phone and saw a simple thumbs up emoji as a response making him sigh once again before slipping the phone into his cargo pants pocket and began making his way to mess hall. He chose to sit by himself not wanting any questions yet and finished up as quickly as he could before making his way to his office to complete the mind numbingly boring paperwork that followed the missions.
Once he got caught up with all the files, and organized everything where it needed to be he headed out to the training field to see Soap yelling at the newest batches of recruits and stood beside him, “they barely know their head from their asses.” Gaz let out a chuckle at the frustrated Scot’s words, “we weren’t much better when we joined up.” That made Soap let out some more grumbling but Gaz just patted his shoulder, “so how was the date last night?” Gaz just shrugged, “not much to tell to be honest.” Soap let out a low whistle, “that bad eh?”
Gaz just shook his head as the Scot punched his shoulder before yelling as one of the cadets tripped over his own two feet, “My dead grandmother can run faster than you pathetic lot!” Gaz went to leave the training to Soap but he called out, “the boys and I are going out to the bar later you coming?” Gaz just shook his head, “nah got plans set already.” He checked his watch and saw that it was only two so he headed to the gym letting himself get lost in the workout until he was dripping in sweat and gasping for breath he checked his watch again and it was five now.
Did he really work out for three hours? He grabbed a spare towel and began wiping the sweat from his face and grabbed a water bottle slowly taking sips, trying not to overdo it. After a brief breather he went to his room to grab a new uniform and headed to the showers. He tried not to take too long but he ended up getting lost in his thoughts, was it really the best idea to retry this date? Sure he had an excuse but he could’ve easily charged his phone or something or even borrowed his sister's phone or something surely.
He shook his head turning off the now cooled water and dried off quickly getting changed back into his cargo pants and plain shirt before going back to his office to grab the files and turn them over to Price. He tapped gently on the office door before hearing the gravelly voice of his captain telling him to come in. He opened the door and raised the file, “figured I’d turn this in before leaving for the night, sir.” Price grabbed the file, “you got plans later?” Gaz gave a short nod, “yes sir.” Price nodded in return, “alright thanks Sarg I’ll file that later.”
Gaz headed out and returned to his room. There were two hours before he was supposed to head out on his date, too much idle time, he opted to clean his gun to waste some time but when he finished he saw that only twenty minutes had passed and let out a groan deciding to send his date a message.
