Burdened Love and Truth

The weight of this burden, a burden of love,
A burden of truth, a burden of fear,
Crushing my soul, like a boulder above,
My heart's desires, oh so near, yet so unclear.

The rainbow flag flutters in the wind,
A symbol of love, of hope, of pride, But I, a purple hue, left to rescind,
My truth, my love, my heart to hide.

In secret, I live, with fear and pain,
Hiding my truth, my love, my flame,
For fear of rejection, of being cast out,
In a world where love is still in doubt.

But you, oh you, my heart beats for you,
A love so pure, so strong, so true,
I toss gold and diamonds at well, Wishing for a chance, a moment to dwell.

But daydreams can't bridge this great divide,
This chasm of fear, this ocean so wide,
I yearn to hold your hand, hard yet soft,
To feel your warmth, to bask in your light aloft.

But rumors swirl, and I don't know what's true,
My heart races, my soul feeling blue,
We're just friends, yet your eyes linger too long,
My heart in my throat, my brain playing along.

Your smile, like a dagger to my heart,
Piercing through, tearing me apart, Why not just say it, if it's true?
The pain of uncertainty, a torture anew.

To grow or to fade, a decision to make, To face this feeling, to confront it and break,
For I hate this hurt, this misery within,
But the decision of yours, to lose or to win.

So I wait, with bated breath, until the day,
When your friend confirms what I already know,
And you, with a heavy heart, admit the truth,
That you've been in love with her all along, my woe.
