This release of two of Mr Scruff's best tracks was released on vinyl back in 2005 in a gold sleeve. It was limited to five hundred copies, and nowadays costs around £50 for a mint copy. I don't really plan on getting this (As you can buy the albums that these tracks are from for much cheaper) however I do see it as a cool collectors item for long-time fans of the Manchester DJ.
Both tracks on this vinyl are probably some of Scruff's best work as a whole. Chicken in a Box sounds fantastic and has plenty of satisfying drops. My only con is that the track gets boring after a while and at a run time of eight and a half minutes, it goes on for way longer than it should do. I still enjoy it though, and I highly recommend the track to anyone who is in the mood for a carnival feel.
The flip side, Spandex Man, is the better track out of the two. It has a really punchy, funky feel to it and I love the drums in this song because they are slightly syncopated, complimenting the track's more modernized samples. British comedy fans might recognize the song for its usage in Channel 4 comedy Spaced.
In my personal opinion, this is a good single, however I do wish it was more widely distributed for DJs and for personal listeners who don't want to buy the albums to listen to these tracks on vinyl (however the albums are great too, so get them!)
You can listen to the two tracks on streaming services and buy the albums on vinyl, CD and digital.
