A few weeks have passed since joining the local police department and helping around town. Could this be what he's been hoping for? A place where he's accepted and appreciated? Doing the right thing by helping people out and doing law work? Gazing upon the town, he thought of those questions, "You know what, Riley, I could get used to this, this place, this town is our home." Riley is sitting next to Rex panting happily.

The cold breeze brushes through his hair, feeling warm sun shine on his skin, as he takes in the peaceful view for a short time before his phone starts to buzz.

"Hello?" Rex spoke. Someone on the other side but started shouting,"Rex? You need to get home fast. "
"I'm sorry, what?" He replied
"Rex, get home now! There's a massive blaze around your cabin!" They sounded worried and scared, now paying attention, they both could hear sirens in the distance.

They both ran, running so fast that you'd think breathing wasn't a thing. The giant smoke cloud, stacked above the high trees, the smell of burning timber filled the area, the feeling of anger started to take hold of Rex as they got closer.

Some officers held Rex back as he tried to pass them. "It's ok, let him through." Quickly passing them, he drops to his knees, tears fell from his eyes as the fire roared. "Do something," he mumbled under his breath, "don't think just do."

With anger in his eyes, he shot up, and he lifted up his arms, palms facing the fire. He closed his eyes and tried to focus. In this moment, everything faded away, and the sounds of the fire and sirens disappeared. The only thought he had was to shoot that ice again like he did the first time, but no nothing.

"WE CANT STOP IT!" shouted from a firefighter. Panic filled her words as she spoke. The fighters slowly move back as the blaze pushes outwards. Nothing is stopping it, not the water, not the snow, not the frozen winds.

"Sir, I'm gonna have to call it I-" before he could finish sheriff Johnson, put his hand in front of the frightened fire chief. As he looked up, they saw Rex standing a foot away from the fire. A bluish glow filled his eyes as tears ran down his cold, pale cheeks. "OI KID GET BACK ITS NOT SAFE," the chief yelled out "wait" Johnson said "hes gonna do it." With confidence in his voice, he said

An icy mist was seen coming from his palms. Everyone stood back and took cover behind their trucks. Slowly looking up, Rex, with his courage built up he shouts, "EVERYONE, TAKE COVER" calmly whispering to himself "I dont know if this will hurt anyone"as he walked closer to what he once called home.

With his arms pulled in, he lunges them forward. A pale blue coloured beam of ice shoots from his palms. Blasting onto the fire, the scorching blaze roared and fought against Rex, the force that strong it was pushing Rex back, but he wasn't backing down from it. Pushing back, he starts to get closer and closer. The sound of the fire got more angrier, but with the help of the firefighters blasting their hoses at the fire from the side, the crewl blaze started to back down and fade.

Blood poured and streamed from his nose as he stood there. The soft white snow below where he stood started to turn pinkish red as his blood soaked into the snow.  Struggling to keep his eyes open, he can feel himself fading out from the pressure and loss of blood, but he will not stop, not till it's over.

" WE'VE ALMOST GOT IT," a young lass shouts as the blaze sizzles and shrinks. "One last push." There was a pause. "One last push before its over," Rex said to himself as he tried to make a bigger blast to finish the fire off, suddenly he manages to force himself to make the ice blast bigger and colder! The fire crackles, shrinks, and shrinks before being extinguished.

Standing there, arms up, the ice stops and vanishes, bringing the battle to a stop. " I did it," he mumbled as he started to wobble. "I did it" before he closed his eyes and his body crashed into the blood-soaked snow, passed out from exhaustion. Johnson ran to him, sat him up against his knee, and shouted, " GET ME A MEDIC NOW!."

Sometime later, not long after passing out, Rex starts to come through and wakes up, "wh- where am I?" He questioned. Sitting in the ambulance next to him was Johnson. "Don't worry, son, you're safe. You're ok. You passed out from blood loss and exhaustion, but it wasn't bad. You just needed some rest, " drinking some water to help him, he sits up and swings his legs off the gurney while taking a deep breath, " Take it easy son" as he held out his hands for support " Riley? Where is he?" Slowing speaking as he steps out of the van," he's ok, he's in my car asleep. " he whistles," RILEY COME" They saw Rileys head poke up at the window, he barks before jumping out of the window, sprinting to Rex, he starts to jump around him and licks his hand "hey boy its OK" Rex assured him as he pats and plays with his ears.

After a moment, all both of them and Johnson walk over to the scorched ground where it once was their home. Searching the rubble, Rex opens up the cracked floor bored. " At least this stuff is here," he said in a sad, upset tone. Pulling it out from the floor was an old chest that had a purple ish shine to it; Rex mumbled something, which sounded like a spell, Johnson peering over his shoulder he saw the shine disappeared, now just an old looking chest lies infront of them. Using a key, he unlocks the chest. Inside are some items, some sort of magic tome, different old notes, some with symbols and sketches on, a crystal that's giving off a low hum and a few personal items.

A cracking voice was heard through Johnsons radio, listening in as he grips the device, paying attention to what's being said he starts to respond back and walks to his car.

Pulling up the heavy chest and leaving it aside on the ash layered ground, he stands up, clapping his hands to clean his hands. Officer shine strides over to them before stopping "ah I'm sorry my boy, what's happened here is just wrong and we WILL find who's done this " he assures Rex with a positive tone as ge places his hand onto his shoulder. "Don't worry, you can stay at the station. There's a small bunk room below the station, next to the gym room."

Looking back at Shine as he's about to open his mouth, Shine starts talking "now before you say anything its honestly OK, no one uses them anymore so it's all yours, please we insist" looking down at Riley with a neutral look apon his face "ok....we will take it" Shine suddenly shoots up " perfect! Here, I'll load your chest into the car. " In no time, he picks up the chest with ease and walks away. " well boy...we've got a new home." Riley barks at him before wagging his small but fluffy tail, Rex didn't sound too happy about it, but he knew it was for the best.

Turning around, he sees most of the fire engines and police have left the scene with only a few police cruisers left, some of their lights still flashing. Rex walks over to Sheriff Johnson. "me and Riley will meet you down at the station we just (there was a pause). We need some time to accept what's happened." looking down at them with a bit of a suspicious look." You boys better look after yourself, I don't want anything bad to happen to you both, you understand?" Holding back some tears, Rex answers back in a brave tone." Yes, sir, you have my word."

A smile was made before turning round and heading back into his vehicle. Johnson and the rest of the officers left, leaving Rex and Riley alone at what was their home. In anger, a punch was thrown at the stone pillar that stood place next to him. Looking down at his clenched fist, covered in a bit of ash from the pillar, "Is this to do with David?" He questioned himself before letting his clenched fist open. Taking a breath, he gathers himself, packing up the stuff that's left untouched before making their way to the station. In this moment, he's got all sorts of thoughts running through his head, but the cold air keeps him calm.

While walking back, lugging only a rucksack, he starts to feel heavy, almost like someone is pulling him down but looking around, he can't see anything to pull him down. Riley barks at him, slowly looking down at him, trying to look brave he stutters, "it's o..ok b...boy I'm sure I..it's j..j..just shock" a little whine Riley makes, he's worried about Rex

Sometime later:

Arriving at the station finally. He goes to Sheriff Johnsons office to let him know that he's now back.
"Ah, perfect timing, son. we've just finished moving your stuff into one of the spare rooms down near the gym. " enthusiastically, he talks to Rex.
"WE had some rooms put in years ago for any recruits that didn't have a place to go" he notes some things into his journal "oh also we didn't unpack any of your stuff as I know you're private about them"
With a smile as he straightens his parker "thanks Sir" but there was a slight sad tone in his voice.
"Look, son, I can understand that it's heartbreaking. You built that place from the ground up and made it your home. Hell, I'd be the same if I was you, but the best thing to do right now is to keep a level head no matter how bad the situation is"
