It was Halloween, and a mother was holding her one year old son, while her husband was holding their daughter. Lily was getting Harry to fall asleep, but he just wanted to play with his sister. James was having trouble with Selene. Somehow, Selene has managed to get out of her father's grasp and was running around the house. Lily was laughing at her husband's predicament, because Selene had gotten her mischievous nature from him. She watched as James ran after Selene trying to catch their daughter. Suddenly, Selene stops and starts crying. Her parents run over to her thinking that he had gotten hurt.

This was not in fact the case. Selene was a special child. She could feel that something was going to happen that would change everything around her.

James and Lily get nervous when they hear the sound of the gate outside. They were not expecting someone, especially not this late at night. They go to the window and peer outside. There outside was the one man that everyone feared. They start to fear for their children. James quickly thinks of what to do. "Take the twins and go. I'll hold him off." James quickly hands Selene to Lily, and Lily runs off to the children's room. She sets Harry and Selene in the crib that they share. She gets down to where she can see both of them in the eyes. She smiles when telling them, "Harry take care of your sister. Selene be brave, and always see the good in everything around you. Mamma and Dadda love you. Never forget that." As soon as those last words leave her, the door of the nursery are blasted open. There stands the same man as before. He sneers at Lily in disgust. "Move out of the way." Lily stands brave in front of her children in hopes of protecting them. Selene starts to cry harder than before. "Not my children. Please, don't kill them." The man does not care for her answer and glares at her. "Step aside, or you can join your husband." Lily is slightly shaking preparing herself for what she knows she must do. "Please don't kill them. Kill me instead, but please don't hurt them." The man is not happy with this. all he wanted was to kill the children and go. He sends the killing curse at her, and Lily falls to the ground dead. With her gone, he turns his attention to the children. He then sends the killing curse at them. the curse hits Harry and Selene, but it does not kill them. Instead, the curse rebounds to the sender, and he is gone. The man is gone and left no trace. When the curse had hit the twins, it had rebounded, but it did not leave them without giving them something. Harry now had a lightning shaped scar on his forehead, and Selene had a scar in the shape of a crescent moon on her wrist. That night the twins Harry and Selene became famous, and became known as the Twins who Lived.
