I check through the spyhole to be sure there is no one in sight before opening the front door of our room. I'm right, there is no one since the team is getting ready for their game tonight. I keep the cap on my head as well as the hood of Madeline's hoodie in case someone tries to take a good look at me.
The elevator takes forever to arrive. My whole body is shaking from excitement and fear of being caught. I don't think the team is going to be mad at me but disappointed for sure. Maybe encouraging them to play well helps a little and they won't be that disappointed.
Luckily, the elevator goes to the ground floor without stopping but then I face a problem. How am I getting to the stadium? It's not within walking distance so I can't walk there. Madeline and I have gone with the team's bus every time except once when we took a taxi. But I'm not getting a taxi by myself. Who knows what would happen to me? Taxi drivers are unpredictable and young women all by herself is a temptation they can't resist.
Maybe the info can help me I think and walk toward the woman behind the info desk.
"Hey," I greet her and smile before continuing, "how can I get to the football stadium?"
"Hi, there are four stadiums in different places so which one would you like to go to?" she asks.
How am I so dumb it hasn't occurred to me that there are different stadiums. I don't even know if Spain and England have their games in the same one. I feel like an idiot since we have visited at least three stadiums in the tournament.
"The one Spain and England have a match today?" I say as a question.
"Well, Spain and England are playing in different stadiums but I think you have time to watch both of the games if you hurry. Spain's game starts in 30 minutes and England's one in 3 and half hours," the woman says.
"Yeah, that would be amazing," I answer.
"You're not the first one asking directions today so I have made a list of the options. You can walk, go with a bike, take a taxi or hop in a fan bus. I recommend the fan bus since one leaves in 10 minutes but you can pick whatever you want," she says.
I choose the fan bus and she helps me to get a ticket and guides me to the right way. I say a huge thank you before stepping outside to get to the bus. She is a total lifesaver today. I'm going to write very good feedback about her on TripAdvisor so everyone else can see that as well.
There are only a couple of passengers inside as I step to the bus so I find an empty spot easily from the middle. The route starts here so I'm expecting more passengers to come in as we get to the next stops. The info woman said the trip takes around 30 minutes so I'm missing the beginning of the game but it's not that bad since it's a long game.
I notice a lady who was behind me in the line to look weirdly at me as she steps into the bus. She looks at me as she walks in the bus corridor and stops right in front of me.
"Are you the girl who's together with Pablo Gavi?" the lady asks and a little panic rushes through my veins.
No one was supposed to recognise me from the photo on the news but apparently I was wrong and the team was right. Since I know how to handle these kinds of situations there is no need to worry. From my experience gaslighting people back is the surest way to get rid of them.
"What!?" I ask and start to laugh. My laugh is such a fake laugh but hopefully she buys it.
"Do you actually think someone like me," I start and point at myself, "could be with someone like him? No way he would ever choose me. Look at my legs and my style and my whole appearance. Not enough for his level at all," I continue.
"Oh yeah you're right, sorry for bothering you Miss," the lady answers before continuing her way.
I feel bad for saying those things about me but at least I know they are not true. The lady on the other hand apparently thinks I look ugly but what can I do, you can't please everyone.
Of course, when I'm in a hurry, luck is not on my side. The bus gets stuck in a traffic jam for almost half an hour so I'm definitely a lot late when I finally arrive at the stadium.
Since Madeline and I are part of England's team they got us passes that allow us to get into the locker rooms and all the games in the tournament. The passes are officially for the staff but that's what we kind of are.
I show my pass to the security guard at the door and he lets me in. As I walk through the building I put the cap deeper on my head in case someone pays attention to me.
It's almost half time and I can't wait to see Gavi so I decide to head to the locker room corridor so I can say a hey to him and inform that I'm waiting for him so we can hang out after the game. Maybe seeing me gives him an extra boost to play the second half really well.
As luck is still not on my side, two security guards step in front of me as I'm trying to get to the locker rooms.
"Stop right there! No one is allowed to go to the locker rooms during the game," one of them says and looks at me with a serious expression on his face.
Are you kidding me!?
