Chapter 58 - Revenge Match

Well, only a few more days left of the tournament. I leave the hotel with a smile for the day.

I didn't realise how soon my happiness would be crushed.

Day 7 the bouts were announced:

Jinou vs Saenoyama

Otegine vs Onimaru

Ookanehira vs Dojikiri

There hasn't been many opportunities for the two ex-team mates to fight; but it seems, today is the day.

Lexi was standing on the balcony of the arena; overlooking the wrestlers below.

So lost in thought, she was startled by a gentle voice; "Nervous?"

Turning her head, Lexi's eyes widen upon seeing Kayla and hugs her tight.

"You should be resting", Lexi says, blinking away the tears in her eyes seeing her friend again.

"So should you", Kayla returns before pulling back, "I came because the guys are going to fight each other. I couldn't just sit at home and wait for the result".

"If I'm honest Kayla; I'm worried for both of them. Back in school it felt like we were one team; but now I don't know if they were even friends", Lexi confesses.

Kayla grimaces as she laid a hand on Lexi's shoulder; "I know what you mean. I once overheard Aki talking to Yomada-san. You remember him from Eiga High?"; at Lexi's nod, Kayla continues; "he said to him 'My sumo life can't start without having gone over Shido. I came here to win and get back what I've lost', but I honestly have no idea what that means".

Lexi looks over at the ring before looking back; "Kayla, does Aki actually like sumo?", she asks.

Kayla gave a small smile, "More than you could know; but he won't ever admit it until he beats Shido. This is why we keep fighting and arguing. I told him that nothing should hold back his passion; but he just says that I don't understand. Since then he's never really confided in me", she admits lowering her head, embarrassed.

Lexi just holds her close and hopes to whichever deity is listening to give Ookanehira a good kick up the arse.

'It's time to bring those two into the ring', is announced, 'They were the captain and vice captain at the sumo powerhouse Tottori Hakuro. Today, these two comrades are facing each other in the pro league ring. The results of this bout is crucial to determine who becomes the champion of this tournament because they both have won all bouts so far'.

East Second ranked Maegashira - Ookanehira vs West Ozeki - Dojikiri.

As the wrestlers prepare, Dojikiri smirks seeing the manic aura Ookanehira was flaring.

Ookanehira looks at Dojikiri thinking back to one time when he said something to him "I guess you love being in second place so much".

'Apparently egging people on is your talent Shido. So as you wish', Ookanehira sneers back, 'I'm going to throw you and Jinou out of my way and become the number one wrestler. I won't let anyone call me second best anymore'.

As the girls watch their husbands take position, two sets of arms wrap around them. Looking up, Saki and Batb stood holding them along with Hinomaru standing next to them. The girls grip the arms around them as the referee shouts:

"SPIRIT"

Both wrestlers came charging out towards each other.

Dojikiri hit Ookanehira with a hand strike; pushing himself ahead of Ookanehira before trapping his arm on the left side. Dojikiri pushes Ookanehira to the edge; but Ookanehira holds himself in the ring and counters by grabbing Dojikiri's mawashi. However, Dojikiri is the data nerd of the sumo world and remembers all the information about wrestlers he has fought or has the chance to fight. Dojikiri traps Ookanehira's other arm that was going for the mawashi and throws him to the side with force that brings him off balance.
