I kiss my uncles cheek on the way out and he grabs my hand "you sure you wanna go to school today? Two of your classmates were-" I nod "I know uncle J. It's terrible what happened but hiding does nothing good" he nods and kisses my cheek "come home if you feel like anything's off" "I will" I reply.

And drive to school. I get out my car and I grin being hugged by Stu. "Hey Sweetheart!" I hug him back "Stu!" With a grin and I reach in my bag "lollipop?" He chuckles and takes it "of course"I grin and see billy at his locker. I skip over "billy!" He turns and chuckles "only you would be happy today of all days" I hold a lollipop out for him "want one?" He takes one and pops it in his mouth. I hold out his lunch bag for him "gee thanks sunshine" kissing my temple and he asks "didn't you sit with and talk to Casey" I shake my head "not really. She wanted answers on the math homework and got upset when I said no" shrugging. He furrows his eyebrows "upset how?"
Billys pov I already know how. It's why I insisted on killing them. It's all about and for her. Maureen broke her family apart the same way she did mine. Sunshine deserves a happy family and a happy life. I was going to let her making my mother leave me behind go. But then she caused her parents to get a divorce. And her light dimmed. She went from bubbly, happy, handing everyone a lollipop and always wearing her gorgeous smile to barely speaking, having no smile, and if she did it was fake, and she spaced out a lot.
The divorce hurt her. And no one gets away with hurting my hope. Fortunately her parents got back together. But they passed away 8 months ago. Her father was a firefighter who died on duty and they say her mother died of a broken heart. Now she lives with her aunt and uncle. She's happy again. It took a bit for her to get there. Casey got mad at her not wanting to cheat and spread a rumor that sunshine was a whore and slept with Steve. And Steve went along with it giving details about their supposed romp. I know she didn't do him. She wouldn't. She respects relationships to part take in such a thing. I ask her "what did Becker do?" Stroking her hair behind her ear her blue eyes on my brown.

"You know that rumor about Steve and I?" She asks uncomfortably. I nod "she started it because of me refusing to cheat" I know. Stu heard Casey start it. And I overheard the shit Steve said about her. She didn't deserve it. I reply "I'm sorry that happened to you sunshine. Try not to think about it" kissing her temple catching a whiff of her lavender shampoo. She mutters to me "what if they think I'm a suspect?" What? I turn to her as we walk to our class "you don't have a violent bone in your body Hope. Everyone in this town knows that. They're just going to ask you questions to cover their bases. That's all" soothing her anxiety.
She's our sunshine yes, but she does suffer from anxiety. She doesn't show it much at all not wanting it to hinder her. She nods "I think I'm gonna bake their families a pie or something" even with the shit they put her through she's still sweet. I fight the want to tell her not to and that they don't deserve shit from her "I think they'll appreciate the kind gesture" she sends me a smile "we still on for the movie tonight?" I nod "there's nowhere else I'd rather be sunshine"
