"Absolutely not." Her mom was not going to hear their proposal about Cara going with Riley to Cuba. This only further angered the siblings.
"Why not? Cara's an adult she really doesn't have to ask for permission." Riley tried to come to her defense but her mother was already shaking her head.
"Cara can barley take care of herself now! Who knows what would happen in another country miles away from here, from us." She said putting another plate in the dishwasher.
"This has nothing to do with you guys! Cara has been working her but off and she deserves a break." At this point Cara wanted to go in her room and never come out.
"Working on what! All she does is sit at the computer and doodle and when she's not in there she's in living room making a mess of some sort. Carapheneila." She now regretted ever telling her mom about that song and the meaning of that word, hell she still wasn't using it correctly.
"Mom she's an artist, she is a graphic designer it is literally her job to doodle! She makes art and it's crazy good and you would know that if you weren't stuck on trying to control her life! She's 20 years old for petes sake don't youth ink it's time for her to enjoy what's left of her youth!" This was a full blown argument now and Cara's eyes twinkled with new tears and she watched them go back and fourth but her brother was right it was time.
"Enough." Her dad had finally decided to step in. "Cara's going. That's it. Julie we can discuss this later but frankly I'm tired of this whole argument. Since you two are so convinced that Cara is ready to be an adult when you too come back from Cuba you can move out.-"
"Daniel!" Her mother went to protest but her father held up his hand.
"You can move out and be an adult, we will not stop you and we will not help you. You two obviously don't understand why we do what we do for Cara and if you thinks it's gonna be easy out there on your own you've got another thing coming." He stood up and left the kitchen, tension was think I'm the air and she felt a little guilty for being happy about their decision. She watched as her mother soon left the kitchen leaving her and Riley to silently celebrate.
THE NEXT WEEK
"You wouldn't need that's dictionary if you had paid attention in Spanish." Cara taunted as she walked in the kitchen grabbing Apple off the counter. Riley just made a face at her.
"You should really eat something of substance." He told her but she just shook her head. Flying was not one of her favorite things to do especially on a full stomach.
"Do you have everything?" He asked but he already knew the answer to that question he had went through her bag himself to make sure that wouldn't have any problems. They we're leaving for the airport in an hour and she was excited to have a little freedom.
"Mom and dad still haven't come down yet?" She asked. Since their last family dinner her parents haven't brought up the trip or Cara moving out once they had returned. But she was still excited her and Riley had been to numerous places to look at apartments and this was going to be a good start for her.
"I think the 3 bedroom townhouse would be good for you." Her brother spoke dismissing the question of their parents he knew it would take them a while to l come around and he wouldn't hold his breath.
"Thats far too big for just me,you only like that one because it's closer to you. I don't need 3 rooms. One will do just fine." She also liked that one but she was thinking about all the packing and unpacking she would have to do and decorating and that was commitment she wasn't sure she wanted just yet at least not for her first home.
"Maybe I would feel a lot better knowing I could be there in 5 minutes. It's really the best one though, you can have your bedroom then you can turn one into and office or art studio and then the other one can be the guest room where I will spend many drunken nights." He did have a point, she did just expand her business she was now doing shirt designs and any thing else the band needed she also added two more bands to her regiment.
